Fischer-Tropsch Synthetic Paraffinic Kerosene (FT-SPK) is a type of synthetic aviation fuel produced through the Fischer-Tropsch (FT) process, which converts syngas (a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen) into liquid hydrocarbons. The method works with different feedstocks, including natural gas, coal or biomass. FT-SPK is known for its high quality and suitability as a drop-in replacement for traditional jet fuels like Jet A-1 or JP-8.



Synthetic fuels play an important role in the defossilization of future aviation transport. To reduce the ecological impact of remote airports due to the long-range transportation of kerosene, decentralized on-site production of synthetic paraffinic kerosene is applicable, preferably as a near-drop-in fuel or, alternatively, as a blend.

Fischer-Tropsch Synthetic Paraffinic Kerosene (FT-SPK): Produced through the Fischer-Tropsch process, FT-SPK involves the conversion of syngas (a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen) into hydrocarbons. This method is used with different feedstocks, including natural gas, coal, or biomass. FT-SPK is known for its high quality and is often considered a drop-in replacement for conventional jet fuels.

Globally, various sustainable feedstocks and conversion technologies for production of biofuels for aviation are currently being developed by research organisations, airlines, fuel producers and aircraft manufactures. In the short term, HEFA appears to be the most promising alternative to supply significant amounts of biofuel for aviation. In the medium term, the most promising alternative is drop-in FT-fuels. Testing of biofuels is crucial to determine suitability for aviation. In the testing process, which aims to maintain the highest standards in safety, biofuels must undergo dozens of experiments in the laboratory, on the ground and in the air.
