#Donate4Somalia and Accord University Conclude Successful "Take Action with UNiTE" Campaign to End Violence Against Women
The #Donate4Somalia initiative, in collaboration with Accord University, has successfully concluded its impactful "Take Action with UNiTE" campaign, aimed at raising awareness and ending violence against women and girls. The campaign, which began on Monday, November 25, 2024, in alignment with the UN's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, has now come to a close today, Tuesday, December 10, 2024.Throughout the campaign, a diverse coalition of participants, including women's rights activists, youth leaders, academics, and community advocates, united to deliver a powerful message: there is no justification for violence against women and girls. Participants collectively called for urgent action to hold perpetrators accountable and establish zero tolerance for all forms of violence against women and girls.
The campaign emphasized the importance of not only preventing violence but also ensuring survivors have access to the support, resources, and protection they need to heal and rebuild their lives. Through public outreach, educational seminars, and strategic discussions, the campaign has shed light on the pervasive issue of gender-based violence and has encouraged society, both at the grassroots and governmental levels, to take concrete steps towards meaningful change.
"We stand united against all forms of violence, and we call on both the public and authorities to come together in a collective effort to prevent violence against women and girls," said a campaign spokesperson. "This initiative is a call to action, urging everyone to take a stand, support survivors, and ensure accountability for perpetrators."
Salma Abdi Hassan Omar, a leading women's rights activist and spokesperson for the campaign on behalf of the United Nations Association of Somalia (UNASOMALIA), addressed the participants during the campaign's closing ceremony. She shared her powerful thoughts on the importance of this cause:
"As a society, we must reject the normalization of violence against women. We cannot afford to remain silent or passive in the face of such abuse. This campaign is not just a message-it's a movement for change. For too long, women and girls have suffered in silence. Today, we stand as one, demanding accountability for perpetrators and calling for an end to impunity. Our work is far from over, but this campaign has been a vital step in ensuring that women are heard, believed, and supported. Together, we can build a society where women and girls are safe, valued, and free from violence."
#Donate4Somalia, a platform managed by UNASOMALI, has been instrumental in driving funding and managing support for vital projects that promote gender equality and support survivors of gender-based violence. In partnership with Accord University, the campaign has contributed significantly to fostering dialogue, awareness, and actionable solutions aimed at ending impunity and advancing women's rights in Somalia.
"We are proud to have partnered with UNASOMALI on this important campaign. Together, we have not only raised awareness but also provided a platform for dialogue, education, and action," said Prof. Abdulkadir B. Mohamed, the Vice-Chancellor at Accord University. "We believe that by continuing to amplify the voices of activists, academics, and survivors, we can inspire a movement of solidarity that brings about real change."
As the campaign concludes, both #Donate4Somalia and Accord University reaffirm their commitment to continuing their efforts in promoting gender equality and supporting the elimination of violence against women and girls.
