New Research from Morphus Reveals Over 103 Symptoms of Perimenopause and Menopause

Toronto, ON - December 4, 2024 - In a groundbreaking revelation that is set to redefine the narrative around women's health, Morphus, Inc. has unveiled new research identifying over 103 symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause. This finding directly challenges the widely accepted but outdated belief that only 34 symptoms exist-a figure repeated since 2013. Morphus is on a mission to change the conversation around perimenopause and menopause, and their latest research proves there's much more to the story.

At the 2024 Menopause Society Conference in Chicago, Morphus showcased four posters highlighting key findings on various aspects of perimenopause and menopause. Topics included:

- The Wide Range of Symptoms experienced during this life stage
- The High Prevalence of Sleep Disturbances
- The Psychological Toll of Perimenopause and Menopause
- Women's Experiences with Their Doctors and Healthcare Providers

Andrea Donsky, the Co-founder of Morphus, expressed, "For years, women have been told that there are only 34 recognized symptoms of menopause, but our research shows that this doesn't even scratch the surface. We found over 103 symptoms-a far more accurate representation of what women are experiencing. It's time to break the silence and give women the knowledge and support they need and deserve."

Morphus' foundational "Signs and Symptoms" survey with 2,239 responses showed that 59% of respondents identified anxiety as one of their top symptoms, illustrating a profound emotional toll. Furthermore, more than 50%, and up to 90%, of the Top 10 most common symptoms involve brain health, cognitive function, and mental well-being, underscoring the urgent need for a broader understanding of the impacts of perimenopause and menopause on women's health.

One of the key findings from the "Beyond the Physical: Shedding Light on the Psychological Toll of Perimenopause and Menopause" survey focuses on the psychological burden of menopause, with a staggering 66% of respondents reporting elevated stress and anxiety. These mental health challenges often manifest as severe sleep disturbances, with over half of the women surveyed waking up regularly between 2 and 4 AM due to racing thoughts and heightened anxiety.

"These numbers are more than just statistics-they represent real women who have been isolated and misunderstood, believing they're alone in their struggles," Donsky said. "Morphus has fostered a community where women can share their experiences and learn to cope together."

In addition to addressing emotional challenges, Morphus also uncovered how women are actively taking steps to manage their symptoms. 60% of women surveyed have turned to strategies like humor, deep breathing, and physical activity to manage their anxiety. In fact, over half reported that laughter was a key tool in lifting their emotional load.

Morphus also explored the critical disconnect between women and their healthcare providers through their "Doctor's Visits" survey. Morphus discovered that 75% of women visit their physicians between two and five or more times before their symptoms are linked to perimenopause or menopause. Seventy-five percent of these women initiate the conversation about perimenopause or menopause, while only 10% of doctors actively discuss the topic with their patients. These findings highlight the need for increased education and awareness among healthcare providers in order to provide better support for women as they go through this transformative stage of their lives.

Morphus' commitment extends beyond research-it aims to provide real solutions through education, community support, and evidence-based supplements. Women seeking to navigate the complexities of menopause can turn to Morphus for resources that blend cutting-edge research with practical, effective strategies.

At the Menopause Society Conference, Morphus' research revealed a wide range of symptoms that go far beyond what is traditionally recognized. From psychological struggles to sleep disturbances and the reactions women are receiving when seeking support from their doctors and healthcare providers for their symptoms, Morphus is spearheading a movement to bring women's health into the spotlight.

Donsky added, "The posters I showcased in Chicago reinforce our dedication to amplifying women's voices and addressing the full spectrum of their experiences. We are committed to helping women reclaim their health and empowering them through knowledge, community, and science-backed solutions."
