Comprising experts from fields as diverse as international relations, the military, academia, and science fiction, the advisory board is poised to guide CSCPG in its research agenda and more
LOS ANGELES - November 20, 2024 - The Center for the Study of Space Crime, Piracy, and Governance (CSCPG), an independent, nonpartisan think tank, today announced the formation of an Advisory Board. The advisors come from diverse backgrounds, including the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Navy, academia, the intelligence community (IC), and science fiction.

"We feel very honored and fortunate to have the opportunity to work with this esteemed group of advisors," said Marc Feldman, Executive Director of CSCPG and co-author of the upcoming book Space Piracy: Preparing for a Criminal Crisis in Orbit [https://a.co/d/3Bne6Xr]. "They bring an amazing range of experience and points of view to the subjects of space piracy and governance."

Present Advisory Board members include:

* Patrick Lin, PhD-Director of the Ethics + Emerging Sciences Group, Cal Poly, and Principal Member of the U.S. National Space Council's Users Advisory Group (UAG).
* Annie Pforzheimer-A Senior Non-Resident Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and former career U.S. diplomat with the personal rank of Minister Counselor (2-star General equivalent).
* Gordon Roesler, PhD-CEO of Robots in Space, former Captain in the U.S. Navy, and former DARPA Program Manager for space robotics.
* JD Cole-A former intelligence officer.
* James Cambias-Author of Corsair and other works of science fiction.

The Advisory Board will meet three times a year and offer feedback and direction on CSCPG's research agenda and overall strategy. CSCPG may appoint additional advisors over time.

"Though space piracy and crime have long existed in science fiction, they're now becoming a very real possibility," said Professor Patrick Lin, one of the Advisory Board members. "It's uncharted territory for serious study, which makes this work exciting. But, it's also a bit daunting since there are no roadmaps to follow for the many directions space piracy could unfold. So, our hope as advisors is to provide insights that will enable the Center to do its best work and have the greatest impact."

The book Space Piracy: Preparing for a Criminal Crisis in Orbit [https://a.co/d/3Bne6Xr], written by Feldman and Hugh Taylor, is scheduled for publication by John Wiley & Sons in February, 2025.
