Premiere at CeBIT: pio Mobile makes BI Easy, Platform Independent and Mobile

AS/point Introducing a Business Intelligence Solution for Medium-Sized Enterprises

Übach-Palenberg, Germany, January 2008. AS/point GmbH, based in Übach-Palenberg, will introduce the new mobile Business Intelligence solution pio Mobile at CeBIT (Hanover, March 4 to 9, 2008, hall 8, booth 26/1). The BI software is specially designed for medium-sized enterprises as for those the current Data Warehouse and BI solutions are too complex and too expensive.
The AS/point solution easily takes over data from operative applications such as ERP or CRM in order to process, analyze and distribute them, independent from specific devices. From the data, pio Mobile generates the knowledge required by the corporate management, sales staff, purchasing or stock management for successful operations. Thus, for example, the management can access its business ratio everywhere; being on customer’s site the sales force knows which products are available and how fast they can be shipped, the purchasing department is provided with precise information about the inventory in an external stock.

pio Mobile can not only be used at any location in the world, no matter if at the Chinese subsidiary or in the CEO’s living room. Even concerning servers and end devices everything is possible as the software is entirely platform independent and runs, integrated in Lotus Notes or in IBM System i as well as on a Apple notebook. Mobile end devices such as PDAs or cell phones are already supported and can quickly be pio Mobile enabled upon request.
pio Mobile obtains its features and flexibility from its technical platform, the Open Source development framework Eclipse.

The BI solution by AS/point is available in four versions: pio Mobile Customer Analysis is designated to analyze customer and sales data,pio Mobile Stock Analysis to evaluate stock processes, pio Mobile Supplier Analysis to check supplier relations and pio Mobile Statistics to have a look at the corporate relevant business ratios. Furthermore an open version is available enabling businesses to meet their BI requirements independent from pre-defined analysis ranges.
The pre-definition of „analysis windows“ makes the implementation of pio Mobile technically easy with little consulting effort. Within a couple of days and at clear costs medium-sized enterprises are provided with a BI tool that in general entirely covers their requirements. In the opposite case the open version provides a BI solution that can be individually adapted.
A common feature of all pio Mobile versions is that the user can set-up customized views of diagrams and figures, enabling him to design individual cockpits. Thus everybody can keep an eye on the individually relevant information.

Eclipse as Solution Platform for pio Mobile

With the pio Mobile software, entirely based on Eclipse, AS/point leverages the technological advance achieved in development using Open Source tools. For the user, the Eclipse basis means that he is provided with a technological solution at a very favorable price, that the module basis used has been tested million times and, that extension requirements can be realized fast and easily.
The Eclipse technology allows to analyze both, online and offline data. Thus, for example, it is possible to relate the customer’s data on site to real time data from ERP and stock management on the notebook in order to accomplish the sales conversation being entirely up-to-date.
All pio-Mobile versions individually run on Windows, Linux and Apple computers or as applications on mobile terminals for sales force or stock management. Even a display on cell phones can be realized easily. Another option: the operation as purely web based application.

AS/point has already been involved with the Open Source development environment since 2001. Further to the large community promoting the development of this tool, IBM is still investing considerable resources in the platform. Approximately half of the developers working on the basis framework are on the IBM pay roll. pio Mobile represents the first commercial Eclipse application by AS/point. The Eclipse know-how achieved is now made available by the software vendor on a service basis.
