Silicon Carbide Fibers Market Summary
Silicon carbide fiber has excellent heat resistance, oxidation resistance and strength, and has high use value in the military field. SiC fiber is an inorganic fiber with a β-silicon carbide structure made by spinning, carbonization or vapor deposition with organic silicon compounds as raw materials. It belongs to the category of ceramic fibers. Since the advent of SiC fiber in the 1980s, SiC fiber has had three obvious product iterations, and its heat resistance and strength have been significantly enhanced. At present, the highest heat resistance temperature of the third-generation SiC fiber reaches 1800-1900℃, and its heat resistance and oxidation resistance are better than carbon fiber. In terms of material strength, the third-generation SiC fiber has a tensile strength of 2.5~4GPa, a tensile modulus of 290~400GPa, and a strength retention rate of more than 80% at the highest use temperature. At present, the potential applications of SiC fiber include heat-resistant materials, corrosion-resistant materials, fiber-reinforced metals, armored ceramics, and reinforced materials. It has high use value in aerospace, military equipment, civil aircraft and other fields.
Silicon carbide fibers are divided into two types in terms of morphology: continuous fibers and whiskers.
Whiskers are a type of fibrous single crystal. The diameter of silicon carbide whiskers is generally 0.1 to 2um, the length is 20 to 300um, and the appearance is powdery.
Continuous fibers are continuous fibers formed by silicon carbide coated on core fibers such as tungsten wire or carbon fiber, or pure silicon carbide filaments obtained by spinning and pyrolysis.
SiC fibers have extremely high temperature resistance, and some models can even withstand high temperatures of 1800-2000 ℃. At the same time, they have good oxidation resistance under high temperature conditions, making them particularly suitable for high temperature environments, such as aircraft engines and rocket nozzles.
SiC fibers have high specific strength and specific modulus, ensuring that they can maintain good mechanical properties under high temperature and extreme conditions. Its tensile strength and modulus show obvious advantages in composite materials applications in the aviation and military fields.
