CARE Project Champions Inclusive Workplaces for Diabetic

The CARE Project, co-funded under the Erasmus+ Program, is leading the initiative to create more inclusive and supportive workplaces for individuals with diabetes. With diabetes affecting over 422 million people globally, including 61 million in Europe, many individuals living with diabetes are active in the workforce. However, a lack of awareness and tailored support in many workplaces results in reduced productivity and stigmatization.

The CARE Project focuses on Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Greece and aims to raise awareness among HR professionals and managers regarding the workplace challenges faced by employees with diabetes. Through a series of key activities, including the development of a practical Guidebook and round-table discussions, the project will help create safer, more equitable working environments.

The CARE Project brings together partners from three countries:

Diabetes Patient Association (DiP) from Bulgaria, providing expertise in diabetes-related challenges and patient advocacy.

MindSpin from Cyprus, specializing in vocational education and training (VET) and responsible for knowledge dissemination and project coordination.

Hellas for Us from Greece, which focuses on inclusion, diversity, and equal access to the labor market.

Project Objectives:
-Promote inclusive management practices in SMEs.
-Equip HR professionals and managers with the tools and knowledge to support diabetic employees.
-Enhance collaboration among stakeholders to address workplace-related diabetes challenges.
-Advocate for better policies that reduce stigma and discrimination in the workplace.

Key Activities:
-Development of a Guidebook: A resource for HR professionals and managers in SMEs that provides detailed guidelines on managing diabetes in the workplace, including first aid procedures, legal aspects, and inclusive practices.
-Exploration of Workplace Challenges: Through focus groups and real-life examples, the project will gather insights from diabetic employees and SME employers to understand the specific challenges they face.
-Round Tables and Discussions: In each participating country, a series of round tables will engage HR professionals, managers, and stakeholders to foster dialogue on best practices and inclusive policies.
-Awareness Campaign: A multi-platform awareness campaign, including webinars, local events, and social media engagement, will raise awareness of the importance of diabetes inclusion in the workplace.

Through these initiatives, the CARE Project aims to create more understanding and supportive workplaces for diabetic employees across Europe, ultimately contributing to healthier, more productive, and more inclusive work environments.

About Hellas For Us:
Our organization was founded in 2015 with mission to raise the active and responsible involvement of youth into social, cultural and educational life of our community. Hellas for Us aims to tackle the major problem of the increase in the number of young people at risk, and in particular the number of young NEETs, which at the micro level adversely affects both the local communities and at the macro level have an adverse effect on the national. Considering that approx. 15% of young people in Europe aged 15-29 are in the NEETs category, meaning 14 million young people, we want to empower young NEETs to find a job or to continue their studies, but also to work with young people in our local communities who we know they are more likely to get into the NEETs group - by providing coaching and personalized mentorship.

The main aim is to give the community possibilities to spend their time, to support bottom up initiatives of the community, improve social work and facilitate the integration of young and adult people into society especially those of rural areas by involving them in our work, and encouraging their creative spirit that helps increasing youth and adult participation in both local community and society in general.
