A photomask, also known simply as a mask or reticle, is a key component in semiconductor manufacturing and microfabrication processes. It is a flat, plate-like structure made from materials such as glass or quartz, coated with a thin layer of chrome or another opaque material. Photomasks are used in photolithography, a fundamental process used to create patterns on semiconductor wafers during the fabrication of integrated circuits (ICs) and other microdevices.
