Dielectric Coating Market
Dielectric coatings, also called thin-film coatings or interference coatings, consist of thin (typically sub-micron) layers of transparent dielectric materials, which are deposited on a substrate. Their function is essentially to modify the reflective properties of the surface by exploiting the interference of reflections from multiple optical interfaces. They can be used for highly reflecting laser mirrors or partially transmissive output couplers, for dichroic mirrors (treating different wavelengths differently), for anti-reflection coatings, for various kinds of optical filters (e.g. for attenuation of certain wavelength regions), beam splitters, heat reflectors, solar cell covers, and thin-film polarizers. The purpose of optical coatings is to change the reflectivity of optical surfaces. According to the materials and physical phenomena which are used one can in principle distinguish metallic and dielectric coatings. Dielectric coatings use, however, optical interference to change the reflectivity of the coated surfaces. Another major difference is that the materials used for this kind of coatings show very low absorption.

At present, there are dozens of optical materials: colorless optical glass and tinted optical glass, infrared optical materials, optical crystals, optical quartz glass, artificial optical quartz crystals, microcrystalline glass, optical plastics, optical fibers, optical filters, aerospace plexiglass, opalescent diffuse glass, as well as related liquid materials. Among them, optical glass is most used in imaging components. As the modern optical industry and electronics industry, information technology and communications technology, close integration of optoelectronics technology, photonics technology and electronic industrial technology in the optical manufacturing applications break through the optical components and optical field of the traditional concepts, at present, aspherical, diffractive optical components, processed with ultra-high-precision thin-film technology WDM wavelength-division multiplexing devices, with a new generation of photolithography equipment for the manufacture of ultra-high-precision optical components, etc. dominate the mainstream of new-generation optical components.
