Maple Bear Midview City adopts baby tree kangaroo at the zoo to celebrate 10 years in Singapore

Marking the celebration of its 10th anniversary, Maple Bear Midview City today announced the adoption of Goodfellow's tree kangaroo, Susu, at Singapore Zoo. This symbolic adoption highlights the school's commitment to education and raising awareness about the natural world we share with animals, plants and people. This adoption by Maple Bear Midview City took place just ahead of Children's Day, celebrated on 4th October, and was part of a vibrant day at the zoo that brought together multi-generational families for an unforgettable family day out.

As part of the adoption ceremony, a certificate of adoption was presented to officially welcome Susu as the newest member of the Maple Bear Midview City family. Ms Michelle Wan and Mrs Patricia Koh, CEO of Maple Bear Singapore, were joined by Ms Isabel Cheng, Senior Vice President of Partnership Development at Mandai Wildlife Group to mark this special occasion. Students and their families had the opportunity to meet Susu and interact with his care team to gain a deeper understanding of this endangered species.

Born on 13th April 2023, Susu's name means 'milk' in Tok Pisin and Malay. The Goodfellow's tree kangaroo population has been on the decline by 50% due to habitat loss and hunting, and Susu acts as an ambassador for his cousins in the wild. Maple Bear Midview City's symbolic adoption supports the well-being of Susu and other animals at Singapore Zoo with the purchase of items such as enrichment devices for mental stimulation as well as medical equipment. The funding will also go towards supporting conservation projects in Singapore and across the region.

Families were invited to continue the celebrations at the Singapore Zoo's Forest Lodge with an exciting lineup of Children's Day activities. Maple Bear Midview City students took the stage for class performances, showcasing their confidence and talents. A buffet lunch was provided for all attendees, offering a chance for families to relax and enjoy the day.

Children also had the opportunity to participate in a range of fun-filled activities, including games, crafts, temporary tattoos, and an adventurous scavenger hunt, all designed to inspire creativity, teamwork, and bonding among families.
"Our 10th anniversary felt like the perfect occasion to mark our commitment to the future by adopting Susu while celebrating Children's Day with engaging and educational activities to encourage families to bond and create memories. Every child deserves a happy childhood, and we're honoured to play a part in nurturing our little learners!" shared Michelle.
