Press release from: Mobile Steam Boiler Rental Corp.

Critical information for New York and Tri-State Landlords

Critical information for New York and Tri-State Landlords

For immediate release

With the coldest months of the year right around the corner, the Mobile Steam Boiler Rental Corp team wants to remind landlords of their legal obligations regarding heating regulations under the NYC Heat Law 2024-2025.

In New York City, the "heating season" runs from October 1 through May 31. Landlords must maintain indoor temperatures at 68°F (20°C) when outdoor temperatures fall below 55°F (13°C) during the day (6 AM to 10 PM) during this period. At night, regardless of outdoor temperature, indoor temperatures must be at least 62°F (17°C).

Similar rules apply throughout New Jersey and Connecticut, with specific state and local ordinances regulating heating requirements.

In New Jersey, landlords must ensure temperatures inside are at least 68 degrees from October 1st through May 1st. Connecticut requires landlords to maintain heating systems in working order but allows for variances based on rental agreements, provided minimum standards are met.

Failure to meet these regulations may result in financial penalties or legal action. Tenants also have the right to withhold payment of rent or pursue legal remedies if their heating issues are not addressed promptly.

"Proper heating is not just a comfort issue; it's a matter of health and safety," says Larry Moskowitz, Operations Manager of Mobile Steam Boiler Rental Corp. "We urge landlords to ensure their heating systems are in good working order and we stand ready to help."
