Online Proctoring Research

The e-Assessment Association (eAA) has released its 2024 Online Proctoring end user Research Report. The report, which compares findings from surveys conducted in 2022 and 2024, offers in-depth insights into the rapidly evolving online proctoring landscape.
Online proctoring has been one of the biggest changes in the assessment industry in the last ten years. The onset of Covid led to the large scale and rapid adoption of online proctoring and, while this shift provided significant benefits, it also prompted some organisations to implement solutions quickly, sometimes without fully considering long-term requirements. The eAA's new report provides a comprehensive analysis of current usage trends, key vendor selection criteria, barriers to adoption, and reflections from early adopters.
Key Report Highlights:
• Candidate Experience continues to be a top priority for organisations selecting an online proctoring partner, underscoring its critical role in ensuring exam integrity and user satisfaction.
• Technical Capability has emerged as the most important factor in 2024, overtaking concerns around data security, reflecting a shift in focus toward practical implementation.
• Scalability has become increasingly important post-implementation, as many organisations that have adopted online proctoring are now looking to expand its use across more exams.
• Organisations are encouraged to engage in consultations or demos with proctoring providers to assess technical capabilities and candidate experience before committing to a solution.
• The research stresses the importance of support services, with users indicating that robust customer support and scalability are essential to success.

Patrick Coates, CEO of the e-Assessment Association, emphasised the report's value for both users and suppliers, "This report offers critical insights for organisations at all stages of online proctoring adoption. Whether you're an early adopter or just getting started, it highlights the importance of considering long-term scalability, robust support, and, above all, the candidate experience. We are also currently undertaken similar research with vendors to understand the current online proctoring landscape, influencing future trends and advancements. As the market matures, we hope this research will help both users and providers make informed decisions and contribute to the continued evolution of online proctoring. "
