Halver, 22 September 2016 – With retroactive effect from 1 September 2016, ESCHA GmbH & Co. KG in Halver has taken over substantial assets of Werkzeugbau-Institut Südwestfalen (Tool Making-Institute South Westphalia / WI.SWF) and moreover entered into close cooperation with the institute. WI.SWF is emerging from this process stronger and can entirely focus on scientific research as well as promotion- and joint projects in future. Already implemented, and innovative projects can now proceed to marketing and all staff stay on board. Through the cooperation, ESCHA can continue to extend its competence in the area of tool- and mold making benefitting from exchange of experience with WI.SWF.

“Together, ESCHA and Werkzeugbau-Institut Südwestfalen dispose of more capacities and more professional experience. The exchange of knowledge now taking place within the cooperation is worth gold not only for ESCHA but also for WI.SWF“, explains ESCHA Managing Director Dipl.-Ing. Dietrich Turck the advantages for his company and adds: “In order to facilitate and speed up this exchange, we are also going to move the institute spatially closer to us. The relocation from Lüdenscheidd to Halver should be completed by the end of October. Eventually and in addition to the entire machine park of ESCHA state-of-the art tool shop, the comprehensive know-how of our staff from different specialized departments will be at WI.SWF disposal.“

“In the past, there have been economic constraints which have hampered the advancement of Werkzeugbau-Institut Südwestfalen. These could be eliminated through the close cooperation with ESCHA putting WI.SWF in a stronger position now than ever“, says Olaf Schmidt, Managing Director of WI.SWF and adds: “From now on, we can concentrate on our competencies including the scientific research in the field of tool- and mold making as well as the institute-relevant promotion- and joint projects with the local industry and universities.”

As a result of the economic stabilization of the institute, the already started successful cooperation networks with twenty mid-sized companies of the region will be continued. More network projects on npn-ferrous metals and R&D-approaches to these topics are under preparation. Besides, the original founder’s charter will be maintained for the members of the supporting association. To this effect, establishing a capacity exchange floor has been initiated to keep production volumes and knowledge in the South Westphalian region. WI.SWF will remain as branch of the German Tool- and Mold Making Federation (VDWF) as well as an attached institute to South Westphalia University of Applied Science.

The next step will be the marketing of already implemented, and innovative project ideas including e.g. a patented plagiarism protection-seal, reproducible laser texturizing, and various approaches on the subject of contour-close cooling in injection molding tools. In future, WI.SWF will, furthermore, deal intensively with hybrid materials and lightweight design. Dietrich Turck and Olaf Schmidt see a high development potential in these fields.
