"Agri-PV" is often used for the terms "agrivoltaics" or for "solar systems on agricultural land". But unlike conventional so-called "ground-mounted solar installations (FFA)", agri-PV involves the agricultural use of land and secondary solar power production. This means that for an "agri-PV system" to really exist by definition, it must always be used simultaneously for food production and electricity generation.

In Germany, "agri-PV" is generally permitted on all open agricultural land. Up to a system size of 2.5 ha, planning permission is no longer mandatory.

According to Section 35 of the German Building Code (BauGB), agri-PV systems up to 2.5 ha in size are privileged under building law, i.e. no development plan is required for their construction, but a declaration of the geographical and functional connection to an agricultural, forestry or horticultural business is.

The advantages are obvious:

Efficient use of land: one of the most obvious strengths of Agri-PV is the efficient use of land. Solar panels are installed on fields without significantly affecting agricultural production (85 percent rule). This enables dual use of the land.

Income diversification: The installation of photovoltaic systems on farms can create an additional source of income for farmers. They can sell the electricity generated or use it themselves, which can improve the financial stability of the farm.

Environmental benefits: Agri-PV helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions as it generates clean energy. This is a positive contribution to sustainability and environmental protection in agriculture. Also, unlike with FFA, farmland is not rendered useless for agriculture, but can continue to be cultivated.

STP Solar Tracker Polska Sp.z o.o has been successfully building single and dual-axis solar trackers since 1990. The current legal situation in Germany in 2024 gives rise to the hope that agricultural land can also be used to generate energy in order to curb the land consumption of purely ground-mounted solar installations.

Our STP SA-20 and DSO-4000 single-axis and dual-axis model series are ideal for agri-PV systems.

A few comments on our STP SA-20 single-axis model series:

Thanks to the individual height and tilt adjustment options, our STP SA-20 single-axle model series can be used as an AgriPV system in agriculture as well as in fruit and vegetable growing without any problems.

The single-axle STP SA-20 model series allows, for example, double use of over 80 % of the area for forage and grassland use.

The individual piling depths are determined on the basis of a geological survey and the resulting piling plan. This means that our AgriPV systems can also be installed in heavy weather areas without any problems.

The possibility of vertical positioning of the modules means that individual passage widths can be defined for machines for soil cultivation and harvesting

Maximum shading can be achieved thanks to the option of horizontal positions.

A project-specific static calculation is prepared for each project

With an Agri-PV system, yields from land use and energy production are possible on one area.

The installation, maintenance and servicing of an AgriPV system from STP Solartracker Polska Sp.z o.o can be carried out using standard tools

The areas directly under the core of the system can be used, for example, to promote biodiversity (bee meadow, etc.).

Cereals or vegetables can be grown between the rows of modules as required.

Farm animals can of course also be kept on an AgriPV area.

The single-axis STP SA-20 model series follows the sun in a wide range of angles. The angle of rotation in the east-west azimuth is 140°.

In addition, the modules in this series are always aligned by sensors throughout the day so that the light hits the modules vertically. Due to the module tracking, over 50 % more solar energy is achieved.

In the vertical position, all necessary harvesting work can be carried out with virtually no restrictions.

The extremely robust design of the STP SA-20 series can withstand wind speeds of more than 160 km/h, making it suitable for use on the coast, on islands, in the mountains and in windy areas.

Between 20 and 40 modules (1350 x 2500 mm) can be mounted in a row.

Depending on the desired efficiency, different module technologies can be installed.

The spacing between the individual rows of modules and the respective height of the STP SA-20 system is always adapted to the requirements of the cultivated plants.

A few remarks on our two-axis DSO - 4000 model series:

Thanks to the individual height and tilt adjustment options, our two-axis DSO-4000 model series can also be used unproblematically as an AgriPV system in agriculture as well as in fruit and vegetable growing.

Row spacing required for tillage - an advantage for PV

The two-axle DSO-4000 model series also allows double use of over 80 % of the area, e.g. for forage and grassland use.

Here too, the individual piling depths are determined on the basis of a geological survey and the resulting piling plan. This means that our two-axis AgriPV systems from the DSO-4000 series can also be installed in heavy weather areas without any problems.

All frame structures in the DSO-4000 series are statically tested to support large modules - so there are no mechanical effects on the modules such as bending, compression or twisting.

Reliability for the entire control system with guaranteed availability over the entire service life

Our DSO-4000 model series follows the sun in two planes. This takes place over a wide angle range. The rotation angle is 280° in the east-west azimuth and up to 85° in the north-south direction

The biaxial modules of the DSO-4000 series are also aligned by sensors throughout the day so that the light always hits the modules vertically. Due to the dual-axis module tracking, over 60 % more solar energy is achieved here.

The DSO-4000 series itself is very energy-efficient, with energy consumption not exceeding 3 kW/h per year

Unlimited bifaciality, free of shading objects on the rear of the module, rear shading ratio < 1 %

The DSO-4000 series can be installed quickly and easily on site using pre-assembled components.

Adaptive backtracking / wind management / lighting management, automatic snow removal

From an insurance perspective, increasing extreme weather in Europe is defined as an unusual, intense weather event that actually occurs rarely but can cause significant damage to infrastructure, property and people. But it is precisely these rare manifestations that have been on the increase recently. The definition and categorization of extreme weather situations often depends on the specific geographical circumstances and the type of insurance, but generally includes the following aspects: 1.
