Our analysts forecast demand for them to increase to almost 270 million units per year until 2023.

Windows for Climate Protection

Quality and structure of plastic windows made from PVC profiles have changed considerably during the past years due to the introduction of multiple-chamber systems. Parameters such as the heat transition coefficient U continuously achieve better results. Efficient, durable, and at the same time affordable windows are essential for fundable energy saving concepts. The ambitious targets of the Parisian UN Climate Change Conference in Winter 2015 can only be fulfilled by further increases in energy efficiency of buildings. Therefore, manufacturers of plastic windows will be able to benefit from state support programs in the upcoming years. However, the volume and the practical realization thereof can differ considerably from region to region.

PVC Profiles Resist

Demand for windows is mainly dependent on building construction. This market develops differently from country to country. The consequences of the financial crisis had different effects even within Europe. For example, right now there are other influential factors prevailing in Russia than in Spain. At present, the construction industry in some emerging countries like Brazil or India is affected negatively by corruption scandals, lack of regulations, or insecure investment conditions. However, sales in these countries will increase significantly on the medium term as well since the market shares of plastic windows have been very small so far and their advantages become more and more evident. For example, Ceresana expects the revenues generated with plastic windows in Asia-Pacific to rise by, on average, 7.4 % p.a. Until 2023.

PVC windows are currently mainly used for residential constructions all around the world. The ongoing trend towards urbanization is a determining factor: Creating affordable living space in the cities is one of the most urgent concerns of many national development plans. However, distribution among the segments residential construction and other buildings, new constructions and renovations can differ considerably in the particular countries. On a global perspective, about 53% of all plastic windows are used for new constructions at present.
