The Embassy of the Republic of Korea [https://web.facebook.com/p/Honorary-Consul-of-South-Korea-Grenada-100064605975654?_rdc=1&_rdr], in collaboration with the government of Grenada, hosted a grand cultural evening to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Grenada and Korea on August 1, 2024, at the Grenada Trade Center.

Prior to the cultural performance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Export Development hosted a reception attended by the Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Export Development, Joseph Andall; and Permanent Secretary Mrs. Roxie McLeish-Hutchinson. The Minister of Climate Resilience, the Environment, and Renewable Energy, Kerryne James; the Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, David Andrew; and other dignitaries were also in attendance.

In his address, Ambassador Oh, representing the government and people of Korea, expressed gratitude to the government for providing the venue for the performance. He said being part of this historic occasion was an honor, marking half a century of diplomatic friendship.

As a gesture of appreciation, Ambassador Oh presented Grenada with a traditional Korean white porcelain known as a "Moon Jar," symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations. Following the reception, the Ambassador officially opened the cultural segment of the evening, warmly welcoming the Grenadian public to the celebration. He expressed his sorrow over the impact of Hurricane Beryl and announced that the Korean government had already donated USD 100,000 in initial aid to support the relief efforts. Ambassador Oh expressed hope that the support given for the evening's cultural performance would uplift the spirits of the Grenadian people during this challenging time.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Export Development Joseph Andall delivered congratulatory remarks, highlighting the active and fruitful initiatives established through the diplomatic partnership between Grenada and Korea. He mentioned the short-term training programs, the renewable energy and rural households project, the digital transformation grant aid, and the civil assistance aid, through which ten vehicles were procured and given to Grenada's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Minister also expressed gratitude to Korea for being one of the first nations to provide tangible support to Grenada following Hurricane Beryl and recognized Korea's role in establishing diplomatic relations since Grenada's independence.

The Grenada Postal Corporation and Korea Post jointly issued 50th-anniversary stamps to commemorate this significant milestone. The designs were presented at the event, featuring the Marryshow House on the Grenadian stamp and Jikjokae Hall on the Korean stamp.

The cultural performance that followed was given by the Korean cultural troupe "Ensemble S," who delivered a captivating blend of traditional music and dances with contemporary compositions. The evening also featured a unique fusion of Korean and Grenadian music, including a special rendition of "My Heart" by Ajamou, performed with the Angel Harps Steel Orchestra.

The celebration of 50 years of diplomatic friendship between Grenada and Korea is seen as a testament to the bond between the two nations and their commitment to mutual support and prosperity. This sentiment is well encapsulated in the event's slogan: "Towards Another 50 Years Together."
