The Click & Collect concept allows customers to conveniently order the e-bike online and collect it from a regional partner. This not only reduces waiting times, but also strengthens local specialist dealers who are available as competent contacts.

Almost 25 years in cycling!

It all began with a small store for triathlon enthusiasts in 1993, when brothers Dirk and Uwe Merz and Peter Bulmahn came together to found the Rad- und Triathlonbörse. A converted garage in Weiterstadt served as the salesroom, almost befitting its status.

One year later, the company moved to Darmstadt's city center and took over the traditional bicycle store "Fahrrad-Dietrich". The company "Citybike" was founded by the dynamic trio. A wide range of bicycle-related products was presented to customers. Citybike" quickly established itself as a recognized specialist store in the southern Hesse region. In 2002, Dirk Merz made the leap from specialist retail to the production and sale of his own products with the first sale of his own brand Cucuma.

To this day, people often ask what the name Cucuma actually means: Honestly? Cucuma is a pure fantasy name! But we think it stands for dynamism and individuality. What's more, the typical curved lettering simply looks stylish. It has now become an unmistakable trademark.

Due to the booming market on the Internet, the idea of offering Cucuma brand bikes to customers through direct sales was born in 2002. The first types of racing bikes and a small product line of mountain bikes were created. The gap between the expertise and advice of high-end retailers and cost-effective direct sales was closed. This is how Cucuma came to be what it is today: A good price-performance ratio, combined with individual advice and the coordination of personal customer wishes.

Two years later (2004), Sporthorizont GmbH was founded with Dirk Merz as Managing Director. Due to the limited space available in the city center, the companies Citybike and Sporthorizont decided to move to the north-eastern outskirts of Darmstadt, to Otto-Röhm-Straße 82, in 2005. There, the concept of two closely cooperating limited liability companies with sales, production, distribution and administration under one roof could be realized.

In the area of sponsorship, cooperation with professional athletes intensified, helping Cucuma to become a well-known competition brand within just two years. Here too, close contact with the athletes is important to us. A collaboration from which our customers can benefit. One example of this is bike fitting. With the aim of optimally fitting every professional to their Cucuma, Dirk Merz has spent years working extensively on the subject of seat position analysis. Today, every Cucuma customer can benefit from the special measurement technology and advice.

In 2014, however, the shared premises at Otto-Röhm-Str. 82 were bursting at the seams. The product range of Cucuma models had expanded to such an extent that it was no longer possible to produce and sell the bikes together with Citybike under one roof. In May 2014, a separate Cucuma World was created in a larger hall behind the Citybike building. Production and sales can be realized on approx. 1,000 square meters, in bad weather even an indoor test ride is possible here.

Cucuma's philosophy of serving every customer as directly and individually as possible has remained the same.
As a customer, you are always in contact with the Cucuma experts. Requests for customization or questions about the various models can be answered immediately. You have the opportunity to adapt your dream bike to your individual wishes. You choose the frame color, decor and individual components to create your own dream bike.
