TCA Health Opens New Medical Clinic in Hegewisch, Chicago

Baltimore Ave, 60633. This new facility is part of TCA Health's ongoing commitment to providing accessible healthcare services to underserved communities.

The Hegewisch clinic is now open Monday and Thursday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with a lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. Walk-in appointments are currently available, ensuring that community members can receive the care they need without long wait times.

A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony was organized for the end of July, pending the completion of landscaping work at the new site.

Background on Hegewisch

Hegewisch is a vibrant community in Chicago, neighboring Riverdale to the east, where TCA Health's main health center is located. According to a 2016 analysis by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, the racial composition of Hegewisch is diverse: 42.5% White, 4.4% African American, 0.2% Asian, and 0.6% from other races, with Hispanic or Latino individuals of any race comprising 52.4% of the population. The neighborhood has a total population of 9,151 residents.

Hegewisch is designated as a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) for Primary Care (score of 17), Mental Health (score of 19), and Dental services (score of 14). It is also classified as a Medically Underserved Area/Population (MUA/P).

Addressing Healthcare Needs

For many years, Hegewisch lacked efficient medical facilities. The closure of the Hegewisch Community Committee left the area without an organization capable of organizing large-scale vaccination efforts and providing necessary healthcare services. Recognizing this gap, TCA Health has stepped in to fill this critical need.

TCA Health has purchased a former bank building, vacant for two years, where they previously provided temporary COVID-19 services. This building is now fully operational as a medical center, addressing the healthcare void noted by community leaders.

The initiative began when then 10th Ward Alderman Susan Gaza invited TCA Health to provide COVID-19 testing and vaccination services, which has now culminated in the establishment of a full-scale primary medical center. The current 10th Ward Alderman, Peter Chico, has expressed his support and enthusiasm for the new facility.
