HB24-1174, signed into law in June 2024, aims to enhance the safety and responsibility of CCW permit holders. The bill includes new provisions and key takeaways, including:
CCW permit seekers must take an 8-hour firearms safety course focused on safety, gun laws, and conflict resolution.
To obtain a CCW permit, everyone (even permit renewers) will have to undergo a live-fire demonstration (and pass).
This extra step will require smaller classes and more cost than what's currently in place by law.
These changes will take effect in July 2025, and it's crucial for permit holders and applicants to be fully informed about the new requirements.
