Young professionals in Nigeria and beyond are setting new records and achieving success in various fields. Whether through scientific breakthroughs, artistic expression, or personal growth, these individuals are making a difference and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.
Mr. Titobiloluwa Oreolorun from Nigeria is a business expert in e-waste recycling and the circular economy. As an eco-tech entrepreneur and mentor, he has extensive experience in environmental renewable businesses, project management, contracts, procurement, and supply. He has a successful track record in developing high-performing client networks in the electronic engineering and technology sectors. His expertise includes cost engineering, performance evaluation, and e-waste management and conversion using circular economy principles.
What Drives His Interest in E-Waste Management and the Circular Economy?
Titobiloluwa Oreolorun explained his motivation for focusing on e-waste management and the circular economy, citing the environmental and economic impacts of rising e-waste from booming e-business industries. As an enthusiast of both fields, he co-founded the Justusedtech Initiative to promote a circular economy by reusing and upcycling devices to bridge the digital divide. His latest publication highlights how consumer electronics, computers, and other communication and electrical products contribute significantly to global e-waste concerns. Thanks to these positive moves, Titobiloluwa gained exposure to various industry skills-both technical and non-technical-and recently, large-scale e-waste transition. He expressed, "despite the hazards and risks associated with the industry, it comes with great rewards, awards, and satisfaction."
Awards and Recognition
Titobiloluwa's skills have earned him multiple awards. His e-waste management startup, Justusedtech, won the 2024 Excellence in Student Innovation & Entrepreneurship Award from the Skandalaris Center for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Washington University, a global innovation leader. This award featured 44 exceptional entrepreneurs. He also received the 2023 International Citizen Service Certificate of Achievement, which recognized his contributions to changing the world through an international volunteering program organized by the United Kingdom. Notably, he previously secured a $100,000 MBA scholarship.
These awards and recognitions have influenced his career and others, Titobiloluwa noted, "With the help of God, these awards have further motivated him to do more and aspire for greater achievements in mentorship, he said.
Passion for Mentorship
While Titobiloluwa acknowledges the significance of his accomplishments, he is passionate about guiding other young people toward a better future and a healthier society. He volunteers regularly, speaks at events, and mentor young individuals who need direction and counseling. He enjoys mentoring because he has benefited from it.
Managing Multiple Projects
From being a mentor to having mentees, Titobiloluwa enjoys investing in tech startups. He has learned to prioritize his workload and manage multiple e-waste projects simultaneously. "I keep a manual note, which I carry everywhere. I give attention to each project according to their respective timelines and milestones. I am flexible and adaptable when priorities change, and I delegate as much as possible. This has been my strategy for almost half a decade."
His strategies to meet these aims include connecting, understanding goals and objectives, supporting and sharing experiences, and continuous engagement through various methods. "Currently, I use small groups and generally through the Justusedtech platform and other professional associations."
Making a Lasting Change
Although determined to make a lasting impact across sectors, Titobiloluwa understands the importance of allowing the less privileged to thrive through underserved community upcycling to bridge digital divide. He has created a schedule he adheres to, discussing real issues and their effects on lives, lessons learned, and strategies to overcome challenges during these sessions. Most of his mentees are from local states.
One of Titobiloluwa's blessings is winning the 2024 Excellence in Student Innovation & Entrepreneurship Award. "It was indeed humbling and motivating," he expressed. "The winners of the Global Impact Award were selected based on the mission set forth by the generous donors of the award, prioritizing scalable, sustainable, for-profit, and quick-to-market ventures with a proof of concept for broad impact."
Looking Ahead
Taking inspiration from Martin Luther King, Titobiloluwa dreams of leading change and contributing to policies driving the e-waste and circular economics industry while exploring other fields. Despite his numerous commitments, he stays current with industry developments by attending exhibitions, technical meetings, and networking events. His passion, determination, and disposition continue to benefit his career, mentees, and society.
