The Munich-based association CultureClouds e.V. has been awarded this year's innovation prize for its art and play project in public spaces, _Straße. Oase,_ or _Street. Oasis_.
This prize is awarded every other year, honors the development of outstanding projects and is endowed with a total of €10,000. In 2024, projects on the topic of "Activating cultural work" were selected throughout Germany. The jury saw a total of four outstanding projects as providing very important impetus for activating cultural work, especially in and after times of coronavirus restrictions. One of these projects is _Street.Oasis_.

Collective works of art instead of highways

What could urban spaces look like if art, play and encounters were to characterize the cityscape instead of traffic and concrete? In 2022 and 2023, the organizers of _Straße.Oase_ (Street.Oasis) worked with children and young people to temporarily transform 30 streets in Munich into collective works of art. Utopian places and artistic structures were created from inhabitable sculptures, domes, caves and fantasy structures - places of unimagined possibilities in which children and young people create a world where they can be everything they dream of.

The project has already started again this year. All current dates can be found at https://culture-clouds.de/kalender/, detailed information, photo and video gallery at https://culture-clouds.de/strasse-oase/. All children, regardless of their physical, mental or linguistic abilities, are welcome to take part in the projects. Between concrete palaces and cars, a well of creativity opens up, becomes the center of an artistic re-population where things happen and people interact with each other. This agile space of unimagined possibilities is inexhaustible: a colorful urban transformation, free of charge for participants and without registration.

The non-profit association CultureClouds e.V. has already received numerous awards, e.g. the BKM Prize for Cultural Education in 2018, the Intercultural Innovation Award 2021 and the Munich Citizen Award 2023.

The presentation of the Innovation Award of the Fonds Soziokultur will take place as part of a professional and practical exchange meeting, which will be held from October 10 to 11, 2024 in the Kulturmarkthalle Berlin.

CultureClouds e.V. is a recognized provider of independent child and youth welfare services according to § 75 SGB VIII, which has been actively promoting the right of all children in Munich to play and cultural participation with cultural education programs since 2001 (at that time still called Spielen in der Stadt e.V.).

Ten full-time employees and around 150 freelance play, art, circus, theater and dance educators create mobile art, play and open spaces for around 30,000 children and young people in Munich every year - almost every day of the year and especially where they are lacking and for those who lack them.

CultureClouds e.V. is constantly developing its program, which is inspired by exciting and relevant topics, and implements it in the project formats of pop-ups, festivals and labs.

The non-profit association is committed to the participation of children and young people in social and cultural life. The creators are committed to diversity and inclusion and are committed to enabling as many different young people as possible to experience participation and co-determination. CultureClouds e.V. aims to find and overcome all barriers that prevent participation in the projects. The projects thrive on the diversity and variety of the participants. The journey has begun and has picked up speed.
