Further, in 2021, CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion increased by 7%, while CO2 emissions from natural gas consumption increased by more than 1%. Therefore, the increasing environmental concerns, such as greenhouse gas emissions, are driving the growth of the direct air capture market.

Advancements In Hybrid Direct Air Capture Systems Redefine Carbon Removal Technologies
Major companies operating in the direct air capture market are increasing their focus on introducing advanced systems, such as the hybrid direct air capture system, to gain a competitive edge in the market. A hybrid direct air capture (DAC) system refers to a technology that combines multiple approaches or techniques to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from the atmosphere. For instance, in November 2023, Avnos, Inc., the US-based energy company, launched the first hybrid direct air capture system (HDAC) in partnership with Southern California Gas Company, a US-based utility company. The HDAC technology removes CO2 from the air and generates water using electricity. The pilot project aims to show how the technology can be scaled up to 1,000% from its current version. The HDAC technology is a hybrid form of direct air capture, consisting of a two-stage system that removes water vapor and then captures CO2 from the dry air stream. It compresses the CO2 for transport, storage, or utilization and condenses the water vapor into liquid water for reuse.
