Personalised therapy came up as an area showing most potential when asked about research demonstrating promise.
Genetech’s Medical Director, Daejin Abidoye said:
“Achieving a sustained antitumor immune response will depend largely on understanding patterns and mechanism of resistance. We are actively investigating this at Roche-Genentech. Understanding how these agents affect the cancer immunity cycle and how these pathways are altered in disease progression will be key in developing strategies to overcome resistance, enabling a sustained antitumor immune response. Personalising immunotherapy is necessary to optimize selection of combination therapy to improve response rates and salvage disease progression.”
Mark Fogg, Head of Immunology, Abzena commented:
“Clearly the combination of cancer vaccines with the successful checkpoint treatment strategies is the most active area of research. There is considerable activity in characterising and profiling expression of neo-antigens which offers the potential to develop stratified or personalised vaccine design. Combining this with more targeted ways to better engage the immune stem through enrolling dendritic cells to present optimally selected antigens/peptides is a very exciting prospect.”
