Synopsis: Set against the vibrant neon backdrop of Las Vegas, Maid to Shine tells the story of Elena Santos, a hardworking Filipina maid with an extraordinary hidden talent for singing. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she crosses paths with Gabriel Rivera, a famous Filipino pop star searching for authenticity and genuine connections. As their worlds collide, they embark on a journey of self-discovery, love, and the pursuit of dreams, all while navigating the complexities of family, identity, and class.
Casting Call information:
* Elena Santos: Late 30s, Filipina, embodies quiet strength and resilience. Despite her financial struggles as a single mother, she remains dedicated to supporting her family in the Philippines. Speaks Tagalog. Singing experience is a plus.
* Gabriel Rivera: Late 30s, Filipino pop star. Beneath his magnetic presence, he grapples with the relentless demands of fame and seeks genuine connections. Speaks Tagalog. Singing experience is a plus.
* Miguel Santos: Teenager (18 TPY), Filipino. Mature beyond his years, Miguel is fiercely protective of his mother and has a keen sense of observation.
* Nollie: Late 30s, nurse, open to various ethnicities/genders. A fiercely loyal friend to Elena, Nollie is the mastermind behind lighthearted mischief and always ready to stand up for those they care about. Speaks Tagalog.
About the Creator:
Telly Award-Winning Director Giovannie Espiritu, a bisexual, once-undocumented immigrant Filipina mom, brings her unique perspective and experiences to Maid to Shine . Known for her roles in Lone Star 911 , Young Sheldon , and Bob Hearts Abishola , Giovannie has also made her mark as a filmmaker with projects like Legacy and the upcoming Love & Karma starring Filipino talent Belinda Panelo and Jojo Riguerra, and a supporting cast including Oscar Nominee Eric Roberts, Golden Globe Nominee Joanna Pacula, and international star Bai Ling. Her work often explores themes of dismantling the patriarchy, healing generational trauma, and exposing systems of bias with humor.
