Hardshell body armor

Hard Shell, a leading dealer in body armor, proudly announces that we are actively working on the adoption of the most recent industry standards that have been released by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). This strategic decision will ensure that our products meet the highest safety and performance standards, demonstrating our commitment to safeguarding lives through smart solutions.

Upgrading to the Latest NIJ 0101.07 Standard

Hard Shell is actively working on new body armor products and armor solutions to meet the latest NIJ 0101.07 standard for body armor. Improvements over previous iterations of testing protocols and performance benchmarks are incorporated into NIJ Standard 0101.07. The latest standard sets rigorous testing procedures to assess body armor's ballistic performance in various conditions, such as changing levels of threat and environmental factors.

All of our products are tested to ensure compliance with the NIJ standards including the previous standard for body armor which is NIJ 0101.06. The most recent NIJ standard 0101.07 is a modification to NIJ Standard 0101.06. This standard will largely be utilized by the NIJ Compliance Testing Programme (CTP) to certify, assess, and test ballistic-resistant body armor. It will also be used by ballistic testing facilities and body armor vendors in the NIJ CTP.

NIJ Standard 0101.07 differs significantly from NIJ Standard 0101.06 and consists of 14 sections and 8 appendices. Notable structural modifications and the addition of numerous improvements to test procedures and laboratory practices are a few of the major differences.

Adopting NIJ Standard 0123.00 for Ballistic Test Threats

We are also ensuring that our products can withstand newly defined ballistic threats or bullets in the NIJ 0123.00 standard, identified by U.S. law enforcement as representative of current prevalent threats in the United States, which is applicable in other regions of the world.

Ballistic test threats are no longer specified in NIJ Standard 0101.07; instead, they are now detailed in the new NIJ Standard 0123.00. It is to be used in tandem with other standards, such as NIJ Standard 0101.07, to evaluate how successfully ballistic-resistant gear and body armor resist these contemporary threats.

To represent the contemporary threats facing law enforcement, the test projectiles and velocities have been revised to account for the greater spectrum of rifle threats. Furthermore, NIJ Standard 0123.00 now includes protection level nomenclature in an attempt to reduce confusion and provide users of body armor with more succinct descriptions of threats.

Collaborating with NIJ-Accredited Laboratories

We have a solid relationship with NIJ-accredited laboratories in the US where we conduct preliminary and R&D testing for our body armor, as well as complete compliance testing.

This collaboration becomes important as NIJ Standard 0101.07, unlike earlier iterations of the NIJ Standard, refers to a set of standardized test techniques and laboratory procedures published by ASTM to enhance testing procedures. This has been the result of active collaboration between the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), the U.S. Army, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), ballistics laboratories, and other stakeholders. By collaborating with NIJ-accredited laboratories, Hard Shell's goal is to harmonize lab protocols with ballistic testing.

As we work to incorporate the new standards into our products, Hard Shell continues to set the bar for excellence in personal protective gear, providing reliability and durability to our valued customers throughout the world. This breakthrough demonstrates our commitment to ongoing improvement and our proactive approach to meeting and exceeding the changing expectations of the security industry.
