Mac Security Test and Review 2016

AV-Comparatives has released Results of their Mac Security Test and Review 2016.

Austria-based AV-Comparatives have released the results of their Mac Security Test and Review, July 2016. This comprehensive document thoroughly evaluates products users can license for their Mac systems. Products tested were a combination of free and paid solutions. All included Mac products received AV-Comparative’s Approved Security Product award.

Malware Tests

The number of malicious programs that can currently attack Mac OS X Yosemite is limited. However, as most Mac systems do not run any third-party security software, even these few threats could cause widespread damage. Precisely because a Mac security product only has to identify a small number of samples, we would expect it to protect the system against all threats that have not yet been blocked by OS X itself. AV-Comparatives used the newest malicious Mac threats, such as KeRanger and OceanLotus. All Mac threats were executed, in order to test the full protection capabilities of the products.

Mac Review and Usability Test

AV-Comparatives evaluated the Mac security products in detail in their 58-page review. The appendix provides a comparative checklist that summarizes protection, features, and support for each product.
