DropChats App Matches Incoming College Freshmen with Student Mentors
Free service provides students with connections, resources, and a supportive, welcoming community
LOS ANGELES - June 4, 2024 - DropChats today announced the launch of its peer matching app, which pairs incoming college freshman with current students who can serve as mentors. The free service connects students on campuses in Los Angeles, New York, Texas, Florida, and Seattle. With Drop Chat, freshman can enjoy a smoother, more rewarding transition to college life, which can be challenging for many young people who are away from home for the first time in their lives. The DropChats peer program has already matched over 100 students in a pre-launch trial.
Students interested in their favorite extracurricular activities can arrive on campus already having a connection with their campus community and other students with similar interests. Their first day in college began before they arrived at school.
A spokesperson for DropChats explained, "More than 63% of university students feel lonely during their first year of college. Feeling out of place or not having friendships can be uncomfortable for students leaving high school and entering college. Connections that students make in school can end up being life-long friendships." He further encouraged student users to embrace the excitement, as this is their time to shine.
Students can anticipate having lots of fun connecting with a community and building friendships. They can experience team bonding and group activities, as well as challenging treasure hunts. In the future, DropChats will offer speeches from interesting professionals, accessible directly on the app. The goal is to help students learn valuable, practical life lessons from them. DropChats has a mascot that has been visiting universities and taking selfies with students who can scan a QR code to register for two great prizes.
