Empower Change! Invest in Black Health Equity!

Empower Change! Invest in Black Health Equity!

Beltsville, MD - The African American Diabetes Association (AADA), a national nonprofit organization led by Black Americans, is launching a powerful campaign to address the alarming health disparities impacting Black communities, particularly the disproportionate burden of diabetes.

Inspired by Legacy, Committed to Change

Drawing inspiration from the tradition of National Negro Health Week, the AADA is dedicated to dismantling barriers to quality healthcare and advocating for Black communities. Despite ongoing efforts, diabetes rates among Black Americans remain nearly twice as high as non-Hispanic whites. The COVID-19 pandemic further exposed these stark disparities and motivated the announcement and expansion of the AADA.

The AADA envisions a future where Black communities are empowered to manage and prevent diabetes effectively. They carry the torch forward, building on the legacy of Black leaders who have long fought for health equity.
Bold Action, Measurable Impact

"Through bold action and partnerships," emphasizes Anthony Banks, Acting Chair of the AADA Board, "the AADA will mobilize individuals and organizations to implement innovative programs and community engagement strategies that reduce risks, improve care, and save lives."

AADA Launches $1 Million Fundraising Initiative
To fuel this mission, the AADA is proud to announce a $1 million fundraising campaign. These funds will be critical in supporting vital programs and expanding their reach in Black communities most burdened by diabetes.

Barbara King, Co-Founder of AADA, Stresses Urgency

Barbara King, Co-Founder of AADA, said, "The AADA is committed to providing culturally relevant resources and advocating for improved healthcare access to help reduce the alarming rates of amputations, blindness, and other complications Black people with diabetes experience."

The AADA Encourages You to Join the Fight

The AADA is encouraging individuals, businesses, entertainers, sports figures, faith-based organizations, nonprofits, fraternities, sororities, and community groups to join their efforts in addressing diabetes and other health inequities in the Black Community.

We also encourage all people, groups, and organizations concerned about health equity and diabetes to donate.
