Slkor recently launched the SL4054, a complete single-cell lithium-ion battery charging management chip that adopts constant current/constant voltage. It is designed for use in 500mA constant current/constant voltage desktop chargers. This solution utilizes fewer external components, making it an ideal device for portable applications. The SL4054 is compatible with both USB power and adapter power.
Due to its internal PMOSFET architecture and reverse charging protection circuit, there is no need for external detection resistors and isolation diodes. Thermal feedback allows for the adjustment of charging current to limit chip temperature during high-power operations or in high-temperature environments. The charging voltage is fixed at 4.2V, while the charging current can be externally set using a resistor. The SL4054 will automatically terminate the charging cycle when the charging current drops to 1/10 of the final float voltage.
When the input voltage (AC adapter or USB power) is disconnected, the SL4054 enters a low-current state, reducing battery leakage current to below 2uA. It can also be put into standby mode to further reduce the supply current to 45uA. Other features of the SL4054 include a charging current monitor, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharging, and a status pin for indicating charging completion and input voltage connection.
