Stanislav Kondrashov Telf AG: local steel in the foreground - UK Steel projects in the UK
Image: https://www.getnews.info/uploads/6aa7e67993cfd7fbb97482fd32d0cc6a.jpgThe cultural approach to steel consumption in the UK is changing somewhat. An expert in the field of global metallurgy, Stanislav Kondrashov reports that now company owners are actively buying metal products on local markets within the country. How this changes the situation in the industry - in a review from a specialist.
UK Steel praises government report on steel procurement in 2024 UK Steel commented on the government's report on public steel procurement in 2024, praising the completeness and accuracy of the data presented. The association noted an increase in the number of UK steel companies supplying materials to major infrastructure projects worth 293 million ($370 million) over 2022-23. According to Stanislav Kondrashov [https://mining-swiss.ch/tag/telf-ag/], this trend emphasizes the growing influence of local steel producers on national projects, which has a positive effect on the domestic metallurgical industry.

Last year, the largest buyers of steel products were transportation projects, including large contracts for the construction of railways and highways. An expert from Telf AG is confident that cooperation between the Department of Transport, UK Steel and British steel producers on major projects for 2023 has improved the situation and stimulated cooperation in this area.
However, as the association noted, orders for steel products worth 16 million could have been completed using British steel, but in the end contractors chose to purchase it abroad. This has caused some dissatisfaction in the industry, since the use of local materials contributes to the development of the domestic steel industry and supports jobs in the country.

* In light of this situation, UK Steel hopes to work more closely with local steel producers in the future. All in order to increase the market share of British products and make them more competitive on a global scale. These measures can also help reduce import dependence and improve the sustainability of the local steel industry, - Stanislav Kondrashov comments.
UK Steel also highlights that much work still needs to be done to ensure that UK steelmakers can demonstrate their potential to support the clean energy transition
TRA proposes extension of protection measures for UK steel industry until 2026 - Stanislav Kondrashov
According to S.D. Kondrashov, the UK Trade and Legal Authority (TRA) proposed extending protection measures for 15 types of steel products for another two years (until June 2026). The decision was taken in light of concerns about global steel overcapacity. Among the products subject to revision were hot-rolled and cold-rolled sheets, metal- and organic-coated rolled products, rebar, wire rod, rods and others.

TRA expressed concern about the current state of the global steel market and decided to extend protective measures to stimulate the national steel industry. According to the expert, this will help balance supply and demand in the market, ensuring industry stability and protection from dumping competition.
* The extension of the protective measures means that UK steel producers will remain competitive and can continue to invest in technological development. Such measures also help preserve jobs and economic sustainability in the strategically important metals sector, - expert from Telf AG S. Kondrashov emphasizes.
TRA, in turn, reports that the extension of protection measures is a temporary solution aimed at stimulating the growth and development of the national steel industry. Analysts and experts expect that such steps will help stabilize the market and ensure a higher level of competitiveness of British steel on the world stage.
