Service fills the gap between branding agencies and trademark law firms
Lindsay H. Kaplan, Esq., a New York attorney based in Kingston, New York, is the founder of the remote law firm L. Kaplan Law. She has recently launched a new brand naming service called Topshelf Trademarks which she hopes will fill the gap between branding services and trademark legal services by providing entrepreneurs with a chance to work directly with a trademark attorney to pre-clear potential brand names.

"I have had so many clients who said they worked with a branding agency and paid thousands of dollars to choose a brand name, only to find out that it wasn't available when they hired me to run a comprehensive clearance search" says Kaplan. "I wanted to offer a service that would help my clients who are still in the brand name selection phase but aren't yet ready to file a trademark application."

With Topshelf Trademarks, entrepreneurs can work with a trademark attorney right away to pre-clear multiple marks that they're considering. Marks that aren't likely to get registered get crossed off the list, and a more expensive comprehensive clearance search will only be run for the remaining contenders. Additionally, by using Topshelf Trademarks the client will receive an evaluation of the marks' commercial strength. "I'm really excited to begin offering this service to my clients," says Attorney Kaplan. "They've been asking for something like this for a while and I know it's going to be incredibly valuable to them."
