Vacuum evaporation is a process that separates liquid effluent into two flows, one of high-quality water and the other of concentrated garbage. Moreover, evaporation involves concentrating a solution by boiling away the solvent. It is done at a lower pressure than atmospheric pressure. As a result, the boiling temperature is substantially lower than at atmospheric pressure, resulting in significant energy savings.

Vacuum evaporation is an innovative, effective and competitive technology that produces excellent results when treating effluents that are difficult to treat using existing methods. It enables the treatment of effluents that cannot be treated using physicochemical or biological procedures in a clean, efficient, safe, and compact manner.

Vacuum evaporation dramatically reduces the volume of liquid waste, resulting in waste management savings, the concentration of corrosive or scale-producing waste, the reuse of the recovered water, and the development of a zero-liquid discharge system, among many other benefits. Therefore, the initial investment is returned rather rapidly because of the decreased trash generated and the high-quality water flow generation.

Furthermore, vacuum evaporators are compact, instrumented, and practical. As a result, operational monitoring is straightforward and effluent volumes of up to 20 m3/h can be treated in a single evaporator. In addition, it should be noted that because the effluent does not need to be heated to high degrees and water boils at 35-40°C when working under a vacuum, the evaporator's energy requirements do not require a high-quality power supply.

After evaporation, very high of distilled water, at least 95%, and a very low rejection quantity, i.e., no more than 5%, are attained. Because of the high concentration of residues achieved by the process and depending on the composition of the effluent, industrial vacuum evaporators can be used to recover raw materials diluted in water that can be sold or reused.

Based on technology, the global vacuum evaporator market is segmented into heat pumps, mechanical vapor recompression, multiple-effect vacuum evaporators (MED), and multi-stage flash distillation (MSF).

A heat pump is an excellent technology for treating low-to-moderate flows of corrosive, scale-producing, or viscous liquids. The technology is based on the refrigeration cycle of a closed-loop gas. It normally requires 130-170 kWh per cubic operation meter to distill energy. A compressor compresses the refrigerated gas, increasing its temperature and pressure. It then passes through the evaporator's heat exchanger, heating the feed. The system functions in a vacuum and the boiling temperature are roughly 40 degrees Celsius.

An expansion valve is used to decompress and cool the refrigeration liquid after it exits the evaporator's exchanger. Passing the vapor created in the evaporator through a second heat exchanger (the condenser) causes it to condense and its temperature to rise right before passing through the compressor again, thereby repeating the cycle. The system does not require additional heating or cooling because the feed may be evaporated and the vapor generated can be condensed using the same refrigeration fluid. As a result, this suggests that the procedure is advantageous in economics and management.
