"A stolen heavy-duty crane from southern Germany belonging to a current customer turned up in Brazil years ago," explains Ulric Rechtsteiner from AREALCONTROL, adding, "that requires good logistics and transportation, including customs clearance, ship loading and fictitious documents."

The claim that insurance is sufficient is no longer valid. On the one hand, insurance can be terminated in the event of serious damage and claims history, and on the other hand, the waiting times for the recovery of stolen objects are very long, in the region of 12-18 months for special vehicles and machines. In short: the company's capacities are limited. The result is a loss of turnover and earnings. In addition, it can be difficult to find new insurance on good terms.

The urgent recommendation is to rely on intelligent, smart telematics solutions. It pays off in more ways than one: transparency in the vehicle and machine fleet for daily use and securing capacities at the same time.
