Federal Lawsuit Alleges King Intelligence & Security Services Violated Federal Law By Not Paying Overtime

Press release from: Lichter Law Firm

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Lichter Law Firm has filed a collective action lawsuit in federal court against King Intelligence and Security Services, Inc., a private security firm, alleging that 50-plus current and former employees were not paid properly for overtime. The suit also alleges that King executives Kaola King and Larry Weems were directly involved in the violations.

King, based in Oakland Park, provides security at schools, malls, businesses and construction sites in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.

Lichter Law Firm filed on behalf of Robenson Pierre, a Miami-Dade resident and former King employee. The suit alleges that King violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by paying Pierre and other former and current employees the standard hourly rate, not the time-and-a-half rate that federal law requires for employees once they have worked 40 hours in one week.

King has been sued before in federal court for overtime violations; the company settled nearly identical charges last year. The current complaint also alleges that the U.S. Dept. of Labor has investigated the King. As a result, the company has paid some workers certain back wages based on overtime.

“This lawsuit provides King’s current and former employees the opportunity to join together and seek the overtime that King unjustly denied them,” said David Lichter of Lichter Law Firm, who is lead counsel. “We hope King will do the right thing and pay the money owed to them.”

Current or former employees of King employed at any time from June 2013 to the present may learn about the resources and legal options available to them and participate in this case by calling the Lichter Law Firm at 786-664-6713.
