What inspired you to write Crushing it in College?

The average tuition per year at a four-year college is more than $25,000. When you add room, board, books and other incidentals, in-state students or their parents can spend well over $100,000 to get that degree. Today, the average in-state student begins their life after college $37,000 in debt! With those kinds of numbers, students (and paying parents) must do all they can to make sure their college investment-in time, dollars and effort-pays off.

Despite the costs, I truly believe that a college education is invaluable, and, if it is done well, is the best investment you can make in yourself. College offers a unique environment in which to create invaluable life skills, build confidence, engage in critical thinking, enhance future employment prospects, and build the foundation for a meaningful life. Throughout my career, I have helped hundreds of people, teams and organizations set goals and achieve amazing results. How did your background and experience influence your writing?

With several graduate and post-graduate degrees and certificates, I'm a frequent flier in the college system. I know the value of an intentional college experience and the dynamic skills it builds--far beyond the classroom, major or degree.

Throughout my own journey, I've observed first-hand why some students stumble and others soar. After interviewing high school seniors, college students, administrators and fellow graduates, I distilled my thoughts, research and corporate experience into easy-to-follow steps and strategies students can use to be successful.
