PROVO, Utah — December 26, 2007 — When asked which company, Microsoft or Google, is more influential in personal and business computer trends and technology, seventy-eight percent of respondents answered Microsoft.

Qualtrics Survey Software, a leader in the enterprise feedback management industry surveyed all 50 states to discover America’s preference for computer technology trends.

Eighty-nine percent of respondents said their next computer purchase would be a PC. Seven percent said they will buy a Macintosh computer next and the remaining four percent responded ‘other.’ Americans exhibited less disparity when asked if their next computer purchase would be a desktop or a laptop, with 53 percent of respondents choosing a desktop, and the remaining 47 percent choosing the more mobile option.

The Qualtrics nationwide survey also asked demographic questions to capture any significant patterns in the survey results which might aid in an explanation.

“The ages of those in the respondent pool mirrored the population pretty well — with more baby-boomer age respondents and fewer 21-30 year-olds,” says Paul Moore, a project manager at Qualtrics. “Personally, I was surprised that only 24 percent of those surveyed thought Google was more influential than Microsoft, but then again, I fall into that small 21-30 year old category.”
