Maki Medspa and Wellness Merges Esthetics with Digital Imaging Technology for Safer Patient Treatment Experience

He has recently partnered with Clear Skin Institute, of Phoenix, Arizona, to unveil novel state-of-the-art ultrasound guided esthetics procedure training academy designed to empower both novice and experienced injectors in esthetic practice.
Statistics provided by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, for 2020, estimates 3.4-million soft tissue filler injections were performed in the United States, ranking it as the second most common minimally invasive cosmetic procedures.
Esthetic ultrasound is a relatively new discipline but offers a very accurate method to safeguard increasing concerns regarding potential pitfalls and complications of esthetic procedures. These complications are increasing due to the large number of esthetic procedures performed by healthcare professionals among various disciplines with varying degrees of expertise. Vascular complications caused by improperly administered cosmetic fillers can lead to devastating tissue ulceration, skin necrosis, and rarely, blindness, occurring in 1 in every 100,000 patients; prompting The U.S. Food and Drug Administration to issue a safety warning regarding these procedures, since 2015.
Ultrasound identifies potential problematic areas for esthetic injectors, such as the facial and superficial temporal arteries. Ultrasound can be used to identify improperly positioned HA fillers, and then guide precision delivery of hyaluronidase enzyme todissolve the HA filler and restore normal vascularity to compromised facial tissues.
Another medical complication which can be identified and treated by ultrasound is atroubling eye bag swelling called chemosis, a common complication of surgical blepharoplasty, which can occur in up to one-third of patients, in which there is no reliable treatment. Blepharoplasty is the fourth leading cosmetic surgical procedure inthe U.S., with 325,000 cases performed annually, a procedure which tightens the eye bag to produce a more youthful appearance. Dr. Giuliano has developed a specialized ultrasound protocol which helps to identify eye bag fluid as a basis for treatment and restoring the normal lymphatic drainage.
Dr. Giuliano believes esthetic ultrasound can be used as an adjunct modality available to clinicians to understand various technical, anatomic, and treatment-related issues, particularly relevant due to large number of esthetic procedures performed by healthcare professionals.
