Press release from: Surprise Parent Group

In response to serious allegations of misconduct and emotional harm within the Paradise Honors Basketball Program, a dedicated group of parents in Surprise, Arizona, has come together to form a support network aimed at assisting former players affected by these issues. The group, which has received complaints from multiple past parents, is committed to addressing the aftermath of the revelations surrounding the program.

The newly established parent group, comprised of former coaches, parents, and volunteer mentors from the Surprise community, has taken the initiative to address the aftermath of the revelations surrounding the Paradise Honors Basketball Program. Their mission is to provide mentorship, job training, and support resources to those who have been impacted by the program's misconduct.

"After witnessing firsthand the effects of that head coach and that program has had on young men, in my opinion, he should not be coaching young men," said Nsonwu, a former Paradise Honors Basketball Assistant Coach.

"Coach Hettel does not have the best interest of any kids in mind and has no business coaching kids," added Kelton, a parent whose son transferred from the program. "He mentally abuses them, he bullies them to create fear. Verbal abuse and fear is always present as he claims to be coaching kids."

Mr. Brown, another concerned parent, expressed his frustration with the lack of action taken regarding previous complaints about Coach Hettel. "I requested records from Every School District in our city to see if anyone had official complaints on file for Boys Basketball. I was shocked to learn Paradise Honors Boys Basketball accounts for 100% of the complaints on file in Suprise. Dysart district returned no records on file in the last 4 years. Paradise Honors had several including a complaint filed after Coach Hettel's first year as coach. The Athletic Director could have stopped it way back then."

Mr. Dunne, echoing similar concerns, stated, "I just don't understand how they don't know what has happened in the program. I spoke to the leadership over at Paradise Honors about the culture, the coach, the program, everything."

After conducting their own investigation into the allegations, the parent group felt compelled to take action in order to support the young basketball players within their community who have suffered harm. Recognizing the importance of providing assistance during such difficult times, the group is committed to offering a range of services aimed at aiding individuals in their recovery and transition.

"We cannot stand idly by while our community's young athletes suffer," said Mr. Nsonwu, a spokesperson for the parent group. "It is our responsibility to come together and offer support to those who have been affected by the Paradise Honors Basketball Program. Through mentorship, training, and access to support resources, we hope to empower these individuals as they navigate the challenges they face."

The parent group aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for former players to seek assistance and guidance as they work towards healing and rebuilding their lives. By offering mentorship and job training opportunities, the group hopes to equip individuals with the skills and resources they need to succeed beyond the confines of the basketball court.

The formation of this parent group underscores the Surprise Basketball community's commitment to ensuring the well-being of its young athletes and holding accountable those responsible for any harm inflicted upon them. Moving forward, the group remains dedicated to supporting former players of the Paradise Honors Basketball Program as they embark on their journey towards healing and recovery.
