Wiegand OUT Support with Matrix

04-18-2016 08:44 PM CET | Media & Telecommunications

Press release from: Matrix Comsec

Organizations are shifting to biometric technology for user identification and verification due to many security and cost advantages as compared to the traditional RFID solutions. However, many times they hesitate to change their backend like Access Control panel and software because of the product and installation costs to be incurred anew.

Traditional Access Control panel use Wiegand protocol to communicate with RFID card reader. A complete change in the existing setup is required to shift from RFID to biometrics. Matrix identified this challenge and delivered a solution that replaces the RFID reader. Matrix integrated COSEC biometric reader with existing third party panel, which enables access through user credentials such as finger or palm using the Wiegand interface. Thus, enterprises can conveniently shift to Matrix biometric readers without having to change the existing set up.

Process:
• The task of adding/deleting/editing users along with enrolment of finger/palm templates is done from the COSEC server.
• On showing user finger/palm to COSEC Reader, the reader will send card id (CSN Number) to the panel on Wiegand interface.
• User access allowed/denied response will be sent to the reader & displayed accordingly.
• Door locks, exit switch, etc. can be operated through the third party panel.

Thus, Matrix intelligently satisfies the need of customers using biometric credential for access, along with existing third party set-up.

Application:
• Enterprises having a card based setup and wanting to switch to biometric technology without having to change the existing panel.

Benefits:
• Enhances security and reduces proxy errors with biometric technology.
• Reduces switching cost drastically as organizations can reuse their panel, software and cabling.

Target User Profile:
• Existing card based conventional markets.

Compatible Devices:
• COSEC DOOR PVR
• COSEC PATH – DCFE, DCFM, DCFI, DCFP
• COSEC VEGA – FAX, CAX

Secure, Scale, Succeed: 7 Video Surveillance System Features for Future-Ready Ma …
As manufacturing facilities become more automated and interconnected, the need for robust security grows more urgent. Factors like automation, supply chain complexity, and new regulatory requirements introduce security threats that many facilities aren't fully prepared for, putting people, assets, and operations at risk. Modern industrial facilities face a diverse range of risks: ● Cargo Theft: In 2024, U.S. and Canadian businesses faced 3,625 cargo theft incidents-a 27% increase from 2023, according to CargoNet. ● Internal

Is Your Surveillance System Truly Secure - or Just Technically Functional?
In 2017, 123 police CCTV surveillance cameras in Washington D.C. were hacked and taken offline - right before a high-profile public event. The issue wasn't the camera. It was a failure of cybersecurity compliance. (Source: BBC) Imagine a scenario where a major supplier loses a multi-crore government contract in India because their CCTV cameras lacked a mandatory RDSO certification for use on moving coaches. In both cases, the cameras worked. But they

Are Smartphones the Next Surveillance Cameras?
As security threats evolve, so must the tools we use to respond to them. Fixed cameras, once the backbone of any surveillance system, are now only part of a bigger picture. Today's risks are dynamic, mobile, and unpredictable - and in many cases, they don't wait to happen in front of a network camera. Security teams know this reality all too well. Why STQC ER Compliance Matters for Network Camera Buyers in India
India's surveillance landscape is undergoing a significant transformation with the enforcement of new compliance regulations-STQC ER, PPO'24, and CRO'24. These frameworks, introduced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), are designed to raise the bar for quality, cybersecurity, and trust in video surveillance products across the country. At the center of this transformation is Essential Requirements (ER), a mandatory compliance standard aimed at ensuring hardware-level security, robust firmware protection,
