From Sydney to the Sahara - Tunisian Prisons Turn To Australian Call Recording Technology

Sydney, Australia, 3 December 2007 – Total Recall, Australia’s leading provider of innovative call recording solutions, has won a tender to supply correctional facilities across Tunisia with communications recording systems. The Total Recall servers will be used to record telephone, 2-way radio and intercom transmissions between inmates, staff and the general public.

Total Recall was selected on the strength of their experience in correctional centre communications development. Total Recall has previously been installed in Australian, U.S. and U.K. prisons, while parent company Comsec TR has developed and deployed secure prison telephone systems in Australia for over a decade. The commissioning authority felt that this unique experience enhanced Total Recall’s capacity to meet the varied call recording needs that prisons inevitably require. The call recording systems will be used to ensure compliance with local and international regulations, as well as to improve training and incident reconstruction capabilities.

Winning the tender was not entirely straightforward. User interfaces in both French and Arabic were developed specifically for the Tunisian prisons application. “Arabic user interfaces pose a unique challenge for software initially developed for English-speaking markets” said Emil Andonov, Engineering & Development manager for Total Recall. “Seamlessly converting entire menus to operate from right-to-left is a major undertaking. The fact that we were able to implement this feature in such a short time is testament to the excellent development capabilities that we possess”.

Total Recall has been deployed to record VoIP, radio, intercom and other communications in prisons worldwide. Software applications for specific areas of prison operations are also available.
