Social Networks & Databases – Powerful Tools for Boosting

Event Date June 5th 2014

Event by Helsinki Think Company and Makery

Universities and research organizations have a massive amount of information, research projects and knowhow, which could be very useful to companies. The common challenge is how to commercialize the research fruits to companies worldwide? At Yissum, the Technology Transfer Company of the Hebrew University, Israel, the use of databases for attracting potential licensees and customers has been extremely successful in the past decade. In addition, the patents and knowhow are also marketed and commercialized proactively, says Tamir Huberman, VP Business Development & IT Director at Yissum, World’s leading Technology Transfer Companies.

Tamir visited Helsinki Think Company on the 5th of June, and demonstrated the TTM (Technology Transfer Management) Software. The software was developed for Yissum and is currently the leading solutions for Technology Transfer Companies in Israel and used by 6 additional companies (The TTM is sold by one of the leading solution providers in Israel, Taldor). The software contains information about technologies and knowhow developed at the University including follow up on all patents, agreements and event activities. The software is also fully synchronized with Yissum’s Financial System and several external websites including Yissum’s main website.

To commercialize new technologies, Tamir also emphasizes the use of social Networks for active marketing, as the TTM by itself doesn’t do the selling. Currently, with over 30,000 first connections (on LinkedIn alone), 15 Tech Transfer Groups and additional tens of thousands of professionals that are part of Yissum’s members, Tamir has been able to contact leading professionals worldwide.

During the seminar Tamir shared his wide knowledge on how tech transfer organizations can vastly increase their productivity and results, focusing on the modernization of market-facing activities.

The international audience consisted of entrepreneurs and experts from different fields, as well as students from Aalto University and University of Helsinki. The talk was organized as a part of Makery’s project on developing entrepreneurship within University of Helsinki and especially Viikki Campus area.

Tamir is the VP of Business Development in the field of Computer Science at Yissum. He joined Yissum in 2004 and in addition to his major focus on Business Development he is further responsible for the technical infrastructure necessary to support Yissum’s business processes and active marketing approach. In addition, he is also the IT Director of ITTN, the Israeli Technology Transfer Organization, and Director in a number of Spin-Off Companies of Yissum.

Tamir is also the Founder of TH-Insight (THI), which aims to assist Companies and Individuals to gain access to the power of Social Networking and NLP.
