Press release from: Deliver the Dream

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - Deliver the Dream, a nonprofit that organizes retreats for families experiencing a serious illness or crisis, is in a contest to win a $25,000 grant from Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc. in collaboration with the Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation.

The company, with locations throughout the U.S., sent out a request for nonprofits located in cities where they serve and asked them to submit applications for this grant a few months ago. A detailed description of how the money would be used was requested.

Deliver the Dream was one of about 50 nationwide organizations chosen to move up to the next level of competition.

“We are very proud of our program and so grateful that Isle of Capri Casinos and the Community Foundation saw the value in it,” said Paul Withrow, Deliver the Dream’s Executive Director. “We are a small organization and being chosen among so many deserving charities nationwide is incredible,” he added.

Deliver the Dream is now asking the public for help.

With the grant money, Deliver the Dream would be able to do a variety of programming for their families in crisis, such as underwrite handicap accessible accommodations for thirty retreat families or pay for professional family psychosocial staff for 5 retreats - the possibilities are endless.

To vote - it’s very easy – just vote once a day, every day from now until April 1. Putting it on an Outlook or Google calendar is the best way to remember.

Deliver the Dream’s mission is to help families living with a serious illness or going through a crisis. They do this by organizing monthly three-day retreats for families. The program invites up to 15 families, free of charge, to one of their retreat locations. Each family that attends has a member – whether it’s a child or parent – living with an illness such as Cancer, Autism, and Cerebral Palsy or going through a crisis like bereavement.

Now, in 2016 they are happy to be debuting a new focus. Their July retreat will be for a group of families they have never hosted before, and are honored to be doing so. They will be hosting their first retreat for families who have a parent who is a returning combat veteran.

Deliver the Dream’s program serves families and has provided more than 140 retreats to nearly 7,000 family members since 2002. Deliver the Dream’s healthcare partners, include some leading hospitals and organizations such as the Mission United, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Miami Children’s Hospital, and Chris Evert Children’s Hospital.

The three-day, two-night weekend therapeutic retreat program improves and enriches the lives of families by providing the opportunity to reduce stress, enjoy time together, learn effective coping skills and cultivate relationships with other families living with similar circumstances. The retreats combine traditional recreational activities like hiking and fishing, with therapeutic workshops, peer-to-peer discussion groups and expressive arts and music activities. Deliver the Dream’s program is designed to be a thoroughly inclusive experience for the entire family unit. Additionally, retreats are not based on financial need, only the true need of the family to be healed.
