The absence of insulin results in elevated blood sugar levels, potentially leading to diabetic coma and causing the body to use fat stores and muscle for energy. Thus, maintaining blood sugar levels for individuals with type 1 diabetes requires continuous monitoring. Automated insulin delivery systems rely on a transmitter attached to a tiny needle under the skin to continuously track glucose levels, a pump that delivers precise insulin doses via a separate catheter inserted under the skin, and a computer chip that uses data from both components to optimize insulin delivery. These systems provide individuals with type 1 diabetes the freedom to live their lives without the need for constant manual monitoring and insulin administration.
