Andrew's 56km run for Kid's Camp in South Africa
London resident Andrew Watt is going to be running the ultra-marathon London 2 Brighton Challenge (56km) in May to raise money for kids in South Africa go to Kid's Camp this summer.Andrew says, "I wanted to use the opportunity to raise money for an organisation and cause I truly believe in. I have visited Sweetwaters and seen the work and impact iThemba is having on the children and youth in the area."
iThemba Hope Trust is a charity that works in South Africa to bring healing and restoration to youth living in the impoverished township Sweetwaters, South Africa. Camp is an incredible environment that helps break cycles of brokenness and allows kids to refocus their lives.
Every year iThemba takes 50 kids and 50 teens on camp. It costs£65.00 for one child to attend camp. Camp is a chance for kids and teens to step out of the pressure of their daily lives and spend an intense 3-day period being shown love and support by our mentors. Kids and teens playcrazy games, eat delicious food, and enjoy time on the beach. The whole focus is to create a safe and fun environment where campers can open up about what's really going on in their lives. Mentors eat, sleep, and play with the campers for the entire 3 days in order to build strong relationships and have opportunities to share about Jesus with them.
[The kids and teens put a small bit of money towards camp, but it is international partners who sponsor the FULL cost of camp for the kids! Sponsoring a kid means you're covering the cost of transport, accommodation, food, all activities and a toiletry pack for your camper! We'll send you a photo of your camper once they all sign up in June, and you'll also get a personal thank you letter from your camper.]
