Press release from: Z-Wave Europe GmbH

First 10-year smoke sensor with Z-Wave wireless technology and VdS Q label

First 10-year smoke sensor with Z-Wave wireless technology and VdS Q label

Hohenstein-Ernstthal, March 16, 2016 – Z-Wave Europe, the leading Value Added Distributor for Z-Wave based wireless home automation, presents an innovative smoke detector made by manufacturer Popp as world first.

At the current trade shows CeBIT in Hannover and Light & Building in Frankfurt on the Main Z-Wave Europe presents as exclusive roll-out partner and master distributer of the smart home outfitter Popp its new innovative smoke detector. It’s the first so called 10-year smoke detector certified with Q label (VdS 3131) and equipped with Z-Wave Plus technology as well. A fixed installed battery in the smoke detector makes it possible to use the device for legally prescribed lifecycle without replacing the main battery.

The smoke detector is equivalent to model Ei650W which was honored by Stiftung Warentest as best “smoke detector with lithium long-term battery” and test winner in the category “wireless connected smoke detectors with lithium long-term battery”. The Popp device has an additional Z-Wave wireless module which enables the device’s integration into home automation networks (smart homes). This allows further important protective functions besides acoustic alarms. First of all it means securing of escape routes in case of a fire by automatic opening of shutters and switching the lighting.

Another important innovation is the automatic dust compensation which prevents false alarms, also after an extended period of use.

Besides its smoke detection function the 2-in-1 device has an integrated siren which can be connected to door contacts and motion sensors as well for use as a part of alarm systems. In case of a burglary for example it can trigger an alarm sound different from smoke alarm.

Another product developed in collaboration between Popp and Ei Electronics, European’s leading provider of smoke detectors, is a CO detector. This device is particularly suitable for rooms with fireplaces as well other areas where carbon monoxide can cause discomfort and health damage. While Ei provides the main part of the device including the CO sensor and a fixed installed 10-year battery Popp supplies the Z-Wave wireless module which allows connection and integration into home automation networks.

The CO sensor measures CO concentration in the air, alarms acoustically and informs the smart home control center if defined limit values are exceeded. Furthermore additional values can be defined. If the CO concentration reaches these values it can send a message to mobile devices recommending airing. Thus closed rooms – for example in schools – can be provided with oxygen sufficiently in time. That helps eliminating causes for discomfort and headaches.

The third device presented at the current trade shows is an electronic door opener. This device is a complete novel device which has not been available in this form yet. Due to Z-Wave wireless technology house entrance doors, for example in multi-family houses, can be automated. With Z-Wave it can be controlled with remote switches or mobile devices as well. Parents for example have the possibility to open the entrance door for their children away from home. Children don’t need to carry a key. Besides the door opener can be combined with pin input devices or door mechanisms with monitor contact which makes additional door sensors redundant.

With attendance at both trade shows Z-Wave Europe emphasizes current importance of both visitor groups for Smart Home and Smart Building themes. The ICT trade has already been successfully active in the Z-Wave based smart home market. In the meantime this technology and associated products become also more interesting for electric specialized trade.

The „Initiative Mittelstand“ (SMEs initiative) in cooperation with publisher “Huber Verlag für Neue Medien“ announced during CeBIT show that Z-Wave Europe belongs to the best companies in “IT Service” category for INNOVATIONSPREIS-IT. Thus Z-Wave Europe will be listed in the new “list of the best 2016”. Besides this the Fibaro “Swipe” gesture control which is also offered by Z-Wave Europe was honored as winner in “Consumer Electronics” category.

Z-Wave Europe presents the latest products at Light & Building in hall 9.0 (booth A61) as well as CeBIT in cooperation with Fibaro Group in hall 13 (booth D72).

Z-Wave Europe based in Hohenstein-Ernstthal pioneered in importing the first Z-Wave products to Europe as a Value Added Reseller in 2008. Since then Z-Wave Europe has been the leading Value Added Distributor for Z-Wave based wireless home automation controls facing high and steady growth in its business. Under its motto “We make life easier” the company provides products and services to transform houses, apartments and offices into smart homes. The company sells exclusively Z-Wave certified devices to wholesalers and distributors.

According to a study by Focus magazine and Statista Z-Wave Europe was honored as „Wachstumschampion 2016“ and thereby belongs to the 500 strongest grown companies in Germany within the last five years. Besides this Z-Wave Europe was honored as one of the best companies in „IT-Service“ category in INNOVATIONSPREIS-IT 2016 contest and is listed in the “list of the best 2016” (www.it-service-bestenliste.de).

In close cooperation with the Z-Wave Alliance (www.zwavealliance.org), Z-Wave Europe promotes the dissemination of Z-Wave technology as the largest existing ecosystem for wireless home automation. Together with Z-Wave.Me, a Swiss-German-Russian company, Z-Wave Europe develops software for various applications including "Z-Way", the first certified Z-Wave controller software.
