HUGS Celebrate 17th Anniversary By Giving Away FREE Speaking Appearances
After serving Metro Atlanta for 17 years, Humanity United with God for Society, Inc. (HUGS), will give away 17 free speaking appearances this month. The speaking engagements will consist of educating the public on addiction, recovery, and insurance vs private pay.
“Addiction continues to remain the world’s most misunderstood illness. The policy makers and insurance companies have successfully perpetuated the ideal that addiction was a problem but not a chronic disease deserving of long-term treatment. Now that addiction has reached into the nations suburban communities, it is now considered an epidemic leaving many people in urban America wondering where was the outcry during the crack era” says CEO Derrick D. Billingslea.
About HUGS
HUGS Recovery Centers was founded on March 1, 1999 by Chief Executive Officer Derrick D. Billingslea. The CEO learned through his own experience and based on scientific evidence that long term treatment works. HUGS programs are customized to each client and they include inpatient detox, 90 to 120 days of residential rehab, continuous outpatient behavioral therapies, and social supports for adults ages 18 and older. Research shows that an addicted person needs about 90 days in residential rehab for the best chance of lasting recovery. This allows the brain chemistry to “reboot” and develop the tools it takes to sustain long-term success.
HUGS is proud of its seventeen years of serving the African American community with rehab/recovery services in the Metro Atlanta area, and in 2004 HUGS received International Accreditation from CARF, recognizing HUGS as a leader in the field of behavioral health care.
