Washington, D.C., March 10, 2016- Can “later” kill you? If you knew you could lose everything, including your life, would you stop and listen, now, not “later”? “Later” nearly killed couture jewelry designer, Mindy Lam. A true Cinderella story, designer Mindy Lam was born on a farm in Hong Kong with big city dreams of a better life. In 2010, as her career was reaching new levels, such as big projects with Macy's, the American Heart Association, St Jude's, and Bette Midler's New York Restoration Project, and garnering national press from People, Brides Magazine, and Vogue Italia, her heart stopped. After being revived, she was diagnosed with end stage kidney disease.

“My favorite word was, ‘later’. As an entrepreneur and single mother, business opportunities were something I took very serious; therefore, when it came to resting, it was always ‘later’. I never thought my heart would stop”, says Mindy. The next three years were full of trials and tribulations including a rigorous, dialysis schedule and losing everything. In 2013, her beloved daughter Kai, finally of age, insisted that she donate her kidney. The story made front page news on Yahoo and other press outlets.

Two weeks before her 3 year kidneyversary, she decided to honor quitting her former favorite word, “later” and THE 2/15: LIFE IS LUXURY PROJECT was born—A special and unique collection which blends the luxury of her couture collection with purposeful design. 20% of the sales of the limited edition collection benefit the University of Maryland Medical System Foundation in Baltimore, the hospital that saved her life.

“Kidney disease affects Asian, Hispanic, and African-Americans at a higher risk, and I had no idea. I wanted to create conversation pieces, so that people could learn about kidney disease because it can be prevented,” says Lam. According to Kidney.org, 26 million American adults have kidney disease -- and most don't know it. High blood pressure and diabetes are the two leading causes of kidney disease.

Lam purposely didn’t include words in the design reflecting that people look perfectly healthy since kidney disease often has no symptoms. She wanted to create something so unique that spark conversation. The 10 Swarovski crystal leaves represent the letters in “DONATE LIFE” and the unique Life Vines reflect the new lifelines that people will now be as a result of sharing their newfound knowledge about kidney disease and prevention. The limited edition collection is comprised of 3 piece sets made of sterling silver cuffs hand-imprinted with vintage lace, vintage rhinestones, and Swarovski crystals. The colors include Onyx/Black and the Pantone Colors of the Year, Rose Quartz and Serenity.
