Ugandan Journalist wins International Humanitarian Ambassador Award

The International Women Achievers’ Award (IWAA) has recognized GWI CEO, Grace Nakajje with an international Humanitarian Ambassador Award. IWAA presented this special award in the category of “Humanitarian Ambassador” to Nakajje for her innovation and paramount role in promoting health of less privileged women and girls in Uganda.

The International Women Achievers Awards (IWAA) is held during the week of the International Women’s Day. It was established in 2009 with a purpose to empower young women, so that they too can reach their goals. The IWAA brings together women from across the globe and recognizes their accomplishments. The Awards Night was Saturday March 5th, 2016 (Red Carpet) at Jamaican Canadian Association, in Toronto, Canada.

The ceremony underscored the paramount roles played by women in society while appreciating their attitudes, initiatives, will-power and perseverance. These honourees are women who have distinguished themselves as prominent citizens in various fields of endeavour.

The theme for 2016 IWAA awards was “GLOBAL AWARENESS TO POSITIVE BODY IMAGE.”

Nakajje holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Journalism and Mass Communication from Ndejje University and a Diploma in Journalism from UMCAT. She has worked with various media outlets in Uganda including the New Vision Newspaper, and UBC TV.

In 2011, Nakajje emerged the best Africa Communicator and won a seat at the United Methodist Association of Communicators (UMAC) Annual meeting in New Mexico, USA. She wrote stories about global health with focus on the fight against Malaria in sub-Saharan Africa.

Nakajje is founder of Grace Works Initiative, a not for profit organisation promoting healthcare for the underprivileged women, children and their families in Uganda. The organisation is currently building a state of art health facility in Bukomolo village, Kibuku District in Eastern Uganda. The facility is bridging the maternal delay gaps of access to healthcare and is to open soon. Nakajje also Authors a book “Voice in the Jungle” that brings to light the depth of Africa’s cultural crisis of Female Genital Mutilation, child marriages, and girl education.

Nakajje is an alumnus of the International Leadership Institute that equips and mobilizes leaders of leaders to reach their own nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She is now accomplishing her Master of Science degree in Public Health, at the International Health Science University, Uganda.

Grace Works Initiative (GWI) is a registered not-for profit Organisation in Uganda, established in 2013. GWI promotes healthcare to the under privileged communities focusing mainly on the women, children and their families.
