SimplyPure Whole House Water Filter Outshines Reverse Osmosis

Generally, pure water throughout the home is the baseline to foundational health. The need to purify and filter water from municipal sources becomes evident considering the alarming contamination of drinking water. Many kinds of Water Filtration Systems compete at the market and claim to offers the best and purest water.

But the question is: WHICH water filter and water purification systems provide the safest, cleanest and purest water? Three water filtration technologies are examined: Reverse Osmosis (the most common water filter), KDF process media and Activated Carbon (which are combined in certain systems).

Reverse Osmosis

The process of Reverse-Osmosis is characterized in a way that water pressure is used to force water through a membrane that has extremely small pores, leaving the larger contaminants behind the membrane. Reverse osmosis is very effective at desalinating water and producing mineral-free water for use in print- or photo shops, and it significantly reduces salt, organic compounds and most other inorganic material from the water. However, some pesticides, solvents and other volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) are not completely removed by Reverse Osmosis because the pores of the membrane are blocking only larger molecules.

Reverse osmosis systems remove naturally occurring, healthy minerals and natural trace minerals will be blocked by the RO membrane (these minerals make the water tasty and serve as a vital function to our body system, and water without these trace minerals can actually be unhealthy for the body). If damage in the membrane occurs, which is not easily detected, microscopic parasites can get through the membrane and contaminate the water.

The waste of a large portion of water running through a Reverse Osmosis system is also problematic. The system generally wastes two to four gallons of water for every gallon of purified water it produces. Reverse Osmosis filter systems depend on a relatively high water pressure to force the water molecules through the membrane.

Activated Carbon

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) is a charcoal purification media which is treated with oxygen to open up millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms in order to adsorb chemicals and impurities. The huge surface area of activated carbon gives it countless bonding sites. When contaminants pass next to the carbon surface, they attach to the surface and are trapped.

Activated carbon water filters do not require a heat or pressure source, which makes them fairly cost-effective. Such filters effectively remove organic material (humus, algae, fungi) and highly concentrated chemicals (chlorine, trihalomethanes, fluoride), as well as microscopic contaminants like pesticides and herbicides.

KDF Filters

KDF process media filters contain high-purity, granulated copper and zinc-based alloys, treating water by utilizing an electrochemical reaction based upon the principle of “Redox” (Oxidation-Reduction). During this oxidation reduction reaction, harmful contaminants are changed into harmless components. Zinc and copper are the preferred metals used in the KDF alloy since both are relatively good reducing agents regarding common inorganic contaminants.

Free chlorine, for instance, is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride, which is harmless and carried through the water supply. In this way chloramines, bacteria, mercury, fungi, mold, algae, iron, hydrogen sulfide, scale and micro organisms are removed as well. Similarly, some heavy metals such as copper, lead, mercury and others react to plate out onto the medium’s surface, thus being effectively removed from the water supply. Above that, KDF Filters control bacterial growth inside the filter.

The Combined Activated Carbon and KDF Filter Solution of SimplyPure™

The SimplyPure Whole House Water Filter combines Granular Activated Carbon Filters and KDF process media filters and features all advantages of both Activated Carbon and KDF technology.

The Simply Pure Whole Home Water Purifier System provides homes, restaurants, bars or cafes with clean, soft and pure water from every faucet and reliably removes all known water pollution and contaminants.

The system requires no backwashing, the maintenance is at lowest cost (filter change usually once a year) and it helps prevent corrosion of plumbing and piping (which means no more staining or scaling of fixtures or laundry).

Conclusion

The water treatment capabilities of Activated Carbon & KDF process multimedia filters are very effective in terms of contaminant removal; these systems remove microscopic and highly dangerous chemicals like chlorine and pesticides, which Reverse Osmosis systems can’t remove. They retain healthy trace minerals in the water, instead of filtering it.

Activated Carbon combined with KDF water filter technology is the better choice compared with Reverse Osmosis, since it produces simply healthier and more contaminant free water.
