Battery Tender® to Showcase Restoration of NAS Defender 90 at SEMA 2023

The restoration journey of the Battery Tender® North American Specification (NAS) Defender 90, restored by Arknoik, will be revealed at the Battery Tender booth #10229 during SEMA 2023.

After taking the vehicle apart and inspecting it, Arkonik's restoration began with carefully realigning the original steel frame using their special in-house custom jig. After cleaning things up with a shot-blasting process, they added a fresh rear cross member. They ensured durability by applying internal etch-priming, a sturdy U-POL Global Raptor coating, and protective Waxoyl.

Then, Arkonik's Mechanical Team assembled the drivetrain components, including rebuilt Raptor-coated axles, a state-of-the-art Fox Factory suspension system, steering components, fuel system, brakes, bulkhead, pillars, side seals, and the rear body tub.

The Defender's model-specific 3.9L V8 gasoline engine underwent a comprehensive makeover. Every facet underwent meticulous scrutiny, including precise measurements, pressure tests, and careful machining to restore them to their original glory. Parts were substituted with new counterparts whenever deemed essential to guarantee peak performance.

Arkonik revitalized the five-speed manual transmission and transfer box, retaining the outer casings, and then incorporated British-made gearbox components, enhanced by upgraded clutch hardware for heightened performance.

Integrating new body panels is a meticulous endeavor, where Arknoik's focus on precision alignment goes way beyond factory standards. After being sanded to bare metal, each brand-new panel underwent a methodical transformation - from in-depth preparation and priming to a rigorous baking process, then careful inspection.

Each panel then underwent individual preparation and painting. The doors, fenders, hood, and side panels received close attention to guarantee alignment upon reassembly. The team administered three layers of primer, complemented by an additional coat of etch primer, before applying the authentic AA Yellow hue and concluding with the final clear coat.

After applying soundproofing and carpeting, the electrical engineers designed a custom wiring loom using high-quality components alongside WIPAC® OEM LED lenses for reliability and safety. Arkonik also added a Battery Tender 5 AMP on-board charger in the seat box, ensuring the truck is always ready for action, even during extended periods of inactivity.
